Ok, I've posted 2 pictures of Carowinds from MSN maps. Why, because I am beyond curious.

<a href='http://www.pbase.com/foreseer/image/60938073/original' target='_blank'>Picture 1</a>

<a href='http://www.pbase.com/foreseer/image/60938111/original' target='_blank'>Picture 2</a>

If you know of any of the land inside the Pink that Carowinds owns feel free to download, edit and upload the updated picture so I / we may see.
If you don't know then please don't go goofing on it.

So, with only 108 Acres developed, per thier fact sheet, <a href='http://www1.paramountparks.com/Carowinds/images/news/2006FactSheet.pdf' target='_blank'>Carowinds Fact Sheet</a> we still have 138 undeveloped acres.

Thanks.

I can bet a good chunk of that "undeveloped" land sits under and underpaved parking lot!

And the land that PGA is on is leased...hummm...

I know that the chunk between the Campground and Hurler is already currently used by the park now (Or atleast when I was in Landscape 98) It was used as a park Land fill. Don't worry it was only Brush etc. All Park trash is disposed by compactors and taken out by BFI.

The lines are slightly off... but it's all public info- use this link to view the parcel records for NC (Mecklenburg County):
<a href='http://meckcama.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/relookup/' target='_blank'>http://meckcama.co.mecklenburg.nc.us/relookup/</a>
and SC (York County):
<a href='http://www.yorkcountygov.com/content.aspx?deptid=60&contentID=149&count=0' target='_blank'>http://www.yorkcountygov.com/content.aspx?...tID=149&count=0</a>
Disable all pop-up blockers and search by "Paramount".

But your drawing isn't far off, Cedar Fair sure didn't buy us for the real estate.

It looks like the park owns quite a bit more than was thought between the campground and Thrill Zone area. It's a bit hard to figure exactly, since it looks like Catawba Trace follows a different path in the tax map than it does in the aerial photo.

I noticed as well that all the land northeast of the mall between I-77 and the entrance road / bus parking lot is all owned by Crescent Resources - the real estate arm of Duke Power. I had read before that the park owned this land and Paramount had sold it off for cash sometime after they bought the parks.

Ugh. That entire parcel is listed as part of the Lakemont Business Park on the Crescent site - which already is built across Carowinds Blvd. across from the park. There's a large amount of undeveloped land in the parcel they own on the south side of Carowinds Blvd., and an even larger undevloped parcel betweeh Highway 51 and I-77 across from Carowinds. Hopefully with that much undevloped land available Crescent doesn't feel they're in desperate need of holding onto the portion near Carowinds. Also, access to that parcel is extremely limited due to having Carowinds access road blocking it off so they might be more keen to sell.

IF that land can be purchased for a decent price, it'd be nice for CF to grab ahold of it before it gets developed. It's probably at least 50-75 acres - hard to say since all the SC lots are divided into small lots of 2-4 acres and I'm too lazy to add all of it up lol. Perfect spot to move some of the parking and / or add a hotel.

Still, it does look like they easily have the 246 acres stated in the press releases which hopefully gives CF some room for expansion without having to concrete over the park like they've done elsewhere, even if they can't buy any of the land near the park.

Thanks. I could not remember the site to look up that info.

It still baffles me why that land between I-77 and Carowinds has not become a part of Carowinds, unless prior companies didn't care about expansion. I'd hate to see someone else develope that land into something lame and have Carowinds locked into what it has.

Hey, anyone want to lend me thier checkbook? :D
