General Carowinds discussion

In another thread the discussion of attractions becoming outdated came up. I know their will be diehard fans for any ride, show, or land to some degree. It is impossible to deny the fact that things must change and that attractions cannot last forever. Some rides get more frequent updates to make them last longer while others gradually go by the wayside.

So...

What rides do you think are outdated now?

What rides will soon be outdated?

What rides do you think have long term lasting power?

The first things that come to my mind are the Paramont Action Theatre. Despite the upgrade to 3D technology, I think each year the novelty of this type of entertainment is wearing a little thinner. It use to house one show only for a few years, then two shows for a couple years, now it mostly recycles films with the occasional new show. It still has som life in it, but I see the theatre hitting the chopping block before long. Second is Frenzoid... I think it's time has come and gone.

Well being that PC is pratically brand new i think nothing is outdated. Its just that some coaster whores like to whine about pointless things that they can control (if you think they are outdated then dont ride them, simple as that). To some regular person who doesnt go to the park every other hour, carowinds has some good rides that will never get old to them. However to some person who tries to have mini-marathons at the park , the rides will start to look different especally after riding them 127 times in a day. So to answer your question, in my opinion, none of carowinds attractions are outdated because as long as the general public lines up to ride it and as long as its working its not outdated.

Just because someone gets old and tired of the ride, doesnt mean that someone else isnt anticipating growing to a certain height so that can be able to ride it...........

I totally agree with what Coasterbruh said.

I still find the Carolina Goldrusher very exciting. One of the oldest rides in the park, I don't think it is outdated because people still have fun on it. The same could be said for the Skytower, Stearnwheeler, Kaliedascope, and Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster.

Just because you don't enjoy it, does not mean somebody else.

OK, to embellish on your points and mine. As rides (and coasters get more intense) some rides just aren't as exciting as they use to be. Back to Frenzoid. With all the looping coasters, drop zone, and other types of thrills today, I don't think Frenzoid with it's system to restrain you and it's simple turn over thrill is up to par anymore. In this case it's not the age of the ride, but rather the thrill of the ride.

It's kinda like movies today. When Wizard of Oz came out, no one had seen Fantasy in color in such grand scale. It was awesome and overwhelming. Today, it is a classic, but does not have the same effect. Catch my drift?

Some rides get outdated because of technology and expectations, it can't be helped. Despite how many future people may want to catch Spongebob 3D or whatever is the latest, it was a ride based on a novelty idea. nearly every park has one or more of these kinds of rides now (some better, some worse) but eventually there will be better technology and the ride will be outdated. 360 theatres anyone? Didn't think so. Now coasters, like Wizard of Oz, have that longer lasting uniqueness about them. They may eventually stop wowing like they once did, but they do not outdate very easily unless they were a bad ride to begin with. Again with movies... Pluto Nash had a ton of money thrown at it, but it was horrible, therefore it will be lost.

Even Shooting Arcades are showing age when everyone can play lightgun games at home. There has to be some things you think outdated, even if they aren't old. It doesn't have to be rides.

I dont think they are so much....outdated...however, Carowinds really needs to step up the themeing on some of them, Cyclone, T-Road. They also need to make the park "prettier" excluding the North Gate-it looks great! I worked many of afternoons pulling weeds under the Hurler to try to improve its look. That is NOT FUN! They just need some minor things to move it up.

Not that the ride it's self is bad, but the Goldrusher needs to be renavated, it's falling apart, expecially the tunel and the covering over the brake run.

I think it's suppose to have that old run down look to it. It's suppose to simulate an old mine shaft.

As said several months ago on another thread I think the Goldrusher could really be spruced up with some new theming. The Ghost Train!

I'm with the person on the 3-D movies in the theatre. I'd like to see something else go there. Still can't believe Judi Dench did the 007 movie! Tear down the theatre and coupled with the Flight School area, there could be a nice sized flat ride or a Screaming Squirrel!

The same thing with the Cyber Sez attraction in Boardwalk. I really don't do the movies or other attractions that are similar to them. When I go to a park, I like to ride.

I just wonder if they'd ever take out the Cyclone? It still has the ridership. I'd like to see a floorless/multilooper take its place or put somewhere else in the park.

Off hand the only thing that is really outdated is drop zone no one can say that it isnt. They dont build them that small anymore. I think that the park could simpley upgrade the ride.

that's somthing i finnaly agree with you on thrill seeker,160 ft is short.(well actually it isn't outdated in a way,it's like a starters freefall, then they can go to king's dominion!)

With all the looping coasters, drop zone, and other types of thrills today, I don't think Frenzoid with it's system to restrain you and it's simple turn over thrill is up to par anymore. In this case it's not the age of the ride, but rather the thrill of the ride.

just because you don't think it's thrilling dosen't mean kids won't either,i'd love to ride frenzoid if i could,i think it'd be scary. maybe you don't but lots of ppl do.

A ride (Drop Zone) is outdated because its short? I guess the one at SFKK is an antique.

I'd hate to see the theater go. Realy, not everyone hates the theater and Carowinds neads to stay fair to everyone. 3D stuff is just fun! Nothing to get bent about. Oh and I do agree with Frenzoid though, its just nothing that great. A screaming squirll should go in its place. (Though, it would be a rival to the parks other wild mouse coaster)

It has nothing to do with my personal preference. I think you are missing my point on Frenzoid. I say as the world around you changes, things that GENERALLY seemed more thrilling may seem less so today. There are many factors involved as I have previously mentioned. Things change and improve over time and that makes other things seem less exciting.

If you must know, I love Frenzoid. I am not speaking of personal preferences here, just cold hard facts. Things change and perceptions and wants do as well.

Things can be called outdated without meaning they are old and done, it's just not "it" anymore is all. The 3D theatre still has life in it, but I see it going the way of the Dodo before many more years. Hopefully with a new Movie experience replacement.

Ironic that of all the drop rides I've been on Drop Zone at Carowinds is still my favorite even though it is one of the shortest...
