General Carowinds discussion

Obviously for safety reasons certain rides are closed when certain wind conditions are present. I'm a pass holder with about a 75 minute drive to the park (from Forest City, NC). I was there opening day and missed a ride on Intimidator due to wind. Not upset at all about this, but I'd like to know if any of you know at what wind speed rides start to be closed at Carowinds? It's a long way to drive to miss out on my favorites. The forecast today calls for the t-storms to clear out and then 17-19 mph winds in the early afternoon. Is that enough to close Intimidator? Any input appreciated.

Thanks!

From what I have heard. B&M (the ones who built Intimidator) set a limit of 40 mph on the top of the lift hill as a maximum operational wind conditions, so the ground winds would be about 20-30 mph is my guess.

Also, welcome to Carowinds Connection!

Thanks!

I'm working right now to convince my wife we need to head down there this afternoon, hope to be able to enjoy the park from 3 to 8 if we can get on the road... wish me luck!

PM sent.

And Saturday we got there and rode the Intimidator (our first time!) just about 3:30, came back by about 7:00 for another ride and it was under a wind delay so we moved on. Rode a lot of rides with short waits though! Guess the storm cleared everyone out!
