General Carowinds discussion

But if they could get Nighthawk to do what it was originally designed to do, the capacity might not be so bad. Remember how Stealth was designed to load upright in the station and then recline as you headed up lift hill? If they would invest money in getting that to work (if it's even possible) that would help immensely with the capacity I'd think.

When is the last time Carowinds brought new trains for existing coaster, 1980(Thunder Road)? Cobra doesn't count, it was new installation not new for 2005 and new trains in 2009.

Josh, was the same system installed on Batwing and Firehawk?

I don't think it was. Stealth was the prototype and since the lift & recline mechanism didn't work properly on it I'm sure those features never made it on the second generation models. Just like the corkscrews on Nighthawk are the only ones in the world... The second generation had them turned into inline twists because they didn't work to well.

This may be a little off topic but only a little. How about instead of removing anymore rides just for the sake of making room for new things, why not build a 3 or 4 level parking deck, bring back a better updated monorail and have guest check in at the loading area for the monorail or somewhere in the station and remove all of the parking except for the bus and RV parking. This would open up probably 15 to 20 acres for a whole other section to the park. Just a thought.

I can't... deal.... not... parking deck... again...

Carowinds has a MASSIVE amount of space. Rides are not usually removed for space reasons, certainly not at a park as unconstrained land-wise as Carowinds. They are removed because every ride is a marginal cost that adds staff, maintenance, and operating costs to the budget.

Universal has a parking deck because they are land constrained on all sides by residential neighborhoods. Also, their attendance is literally EIGHT TIMES higher than Carowinds and they charge twice as much to get in.

Yeah, the cost per space in a parking building is enormous. Also, Carowinds isn't in need of land.

Monorails are also insanely expensive per foot of track. It's why Disney hasn't expanded theirs.

Ok ok just a thought; I designed my version of Carowinds on Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and I put in a deck with a monorail and thought it might be an idea. And yes I am old enough to remember riding the monorail as a teenager and I liked the atmosphere; but coast is a big issue, money could be well spent elswhere.
