Looks like Carowinds has added an additional weekend to the '04 operating schedule. Now open weekends through Nov. 7th. I can't remember a time in the parks history where they were open that late in the year (not counting the Christmas in the park in the 80's).

I'm guessing that with the recent heavy rains and the impending rains from IVAN this weekend, they are wanting to make up for the loss by extending the schedule.

Kings Dominion did this earlier this year as well.

Seems to be a test to me.

I'd love to see what the parks could do at Christmas if they can eventually extent the season. Scarowinds and other park Halloween events have been huge successes. Christmas done properly could turn in some big crowds as well I'd wager. Heck, throw in a Fall Festival in Novemeber with a special Thanksgiving Parade and an extra Turkey Leg Cart and who knows. :D

I'd like to see Carowinds do something like Dollywood does for Christmas.

It seems like the park would make a finalized operating schedule before the season starts instead of constantly changing it throughout the summer. That's what most other parks normally do.

I guess they try to make up for rain losses and such.

from the latest models, it looks like charlotte will be getting 8-15" of rain when Ivan stalls over Hickory.

Go ahead and correct me "weatherfreak13" ;)

This has been announced for a while. We first found out about Late July/Early August. If I am not Mistaken.

Here's some food for thought. In the beginning of the season they already knew they were gonna be open for that extra weekend, but to make it sound "special" they announce it at the beginning of the end of the season. I think they know exactly what they are doing and this is a marketing strategy that I think will work awhole lot better than having the dates already printed on the map......

Back around the 1999-2001 seasons the park also announced extended park dates. They placed small signs at both entrances stating the park would be open an extra weekend.

It very well could be a marketing strategy, who knows. People react to things like that though.
