Yesterday, I got my copy of the Discovery Channel Canada's coaster phobics show, which was filmed at Carowinds earlier this year. After I got out of class last night, I finally got to watch it. Even though it was filmed at Carowinds, it didn't focus on the park. The park that it did focus on was...tada...Cedar Point. All that was seen of Carowinds was the class for the phobes and Top Gun.
I was wondering how they were going to fill up a whole hour. With the Cedar Point, PTC, and S&S segments, I had my answer. I really liked seeing the Screaming Squirrel in action. It looks to be really a fun ride and hope one gets built somewhere near here very soon (enclose it, put it in Thrill Zone, add some special effects, and call it Tomb Raider.) Other than that, it was just the usual Cedar Point love fest stuff that you see on other shows.
Some of the people who post here were featured in the show: Charlotteguy, does 73 still post here?, and myself. Did I miss anybody? There was a quick segment with the enthusiasts near the beginning and that was basically it for us. The rest of the time you could see us sitting in the class trying to look amused doing the breathing exercises, etc., that Doc Otto had us doing to get prepped up for our big ride. There were shots of us on Top Gun when the phobics had their big moment to ride the coaster.
I'd like to know if any of the phobes are riding coasters now. Two of them were spouses who didn't like coasters and their respective other halves wanted them to be able to ride together.
Overall, it wasn't a bad show. Some nice footage of Top Gun was in the special. Although Raptor Jo scared me
To answer a few questions before they pop up: Its not been decided if the show will be shown in the US. Its a Discovery Channel Canada production and their sales department has to "sell" it to the US. My guess is that even though its the *Discovery Channel*, they're two seperate entities and have to rely on sales of programs, etc. It could be shown here at some point. You just never know.
