There is a ride on the 1976 park map labeled Horse Around, and it looks like a carousel. Anyone know anything about this ride?

That link does not seem to be working. I got a message saying "Forbbiden", and when I copy & paste it, the picture does not come up.

I Don't recall a ride of that name. Probably just a more creative label for the Carousel, like you said.

The ride doesn't show up on the 1979 park map on C:TEY.
Ken Rutherford, isn't he the webmaster of Carowinds:The Early Years?

Probably doesn't show up because they took it out. As John Boy and Billy would say...."You think?"

Yes, Ken runs the Early Winds site.

I know the ride was removed, what I am asking for is when it opened, what it was, and when it closed. I remember reading somewhere it was a Mule powered carousel.
Ok, cool.

This was probably just a small temporary Merry-Go-Round the park featured during the years between The Double Decker Carousel, removed in '74, and the Current Denzel Carousel, which was added in '78. (Which will hopefully be repainted to more respectable colors someday like the Riverview Carousel at SFOG)

Perhaps they thought the park had to have one, and this was the only one they could get at the time.

That makes since. I found where I remember seeing it, it is listed here
( <a href='http://www.carowinds.com/corpinfo_press11.jsp' target='_blank'>http://www.carowinds.com/corpinfo_press11.jsp</a> ).

I noticed the Oaken Bucket was called the Whirling Well. That is the old Oaken Bucket isn't it?

Yea. Perhaps there was a name change or something? That has to be it because it was not removed until the 80s.

Something else interesting: The Carolina Carowinds Railroad was removed at the end of the 1975 season, yet is on the 1976 map. Perhaps the removal of the train was not originally planned?
