I've confirmed this numerous times already.

Dark8, I agree. But some people are expecting stuff that's simply not going to happen. Not that other things aren't going to happen in place of, but the things done people are expecting to happen or thinking could happen aren't happening.

The announcement will be exciting for sure. But there are things that some are expecting that aren't going to happen on their timeframe, but will happen on the parks timeframe.

The amount of space it takes up, maintenance it probably requires, and its not open for all of the season. Would much rather see some flats in this area. Only down side would be all the trees that would be removed.

Replace Rapids with a better water ride such as Intamin Aquatraxx. And that may satisfy folks who miss the log flume ride.

And how many aquatrax have to been on to make that assumption? I don't think the flume is missed much at all. If the park were to her a new water attraction I think a splash battle is more fitting......and yes, I have been on one.. More family friendly and very interactive, unlike an aquatrax which is just a glorified roller coaster that doesn't even get you wet...not even a sprinkle!

Thanks Chris. I hope they purchase the rest of the land if it's not owned already or if the current owner puts it up for sale.

WBTV News 3 is about to do a segment on the expansion at Carowinds and how its going to affect the surrounding areas.

They basically spoke on the info we already know about the installment of the new general manager. The only thing I didn't know was the the park was getting a million dollars from Charlotte and Mecklenburg County over the 3yr period per year. So 53 million for the 1st phase? I thought the incentives were a set amount already factored into the 50 million, however according to the Charlotte business journal:

"Carowinds is getting taxpayer assistance for the project. Charlotte and Mecklenburg County approved in September incentives worth $1 million over three years."

According to TPR the general manager said that they are going to fix a part that broke and redo other features on the ride.

We knew about the tax incentives already. That was announced in the council meeting last year. Carowinds went to Charlotte asking for tax incentives that are reportedly worth nearly 1 million a year for three years. My understanding isn't that Carowinds is getting money from them, but rather that Carowinds won't have to pay them any taxes for the next three years effectively saving them around $3 mil.

BTW, that happens all the time all over the place. Cities/counties/areas give tax incentives for businesses to open in their area and bring jobs. It's not cash they pay out to those businesses but rather the lack of local taxes - sales taxes, property taxes, etc that the businesses have to pay.

I wouldn't surprise me to hear the local news report the information incorrectly. They do it all the time.
