General Carowinds discussion

I'm posting this because I didn't see it mentioned at all in this thread. I saw it somewhere else on the site, but someone dismissed it as not being related to Carowinds. Apparently, there are "FURY" billboards around the city. They direct you to the following website:

http://whatstherageabout.com/

The site appears to be for medical testing possibly (which is why it was dismissed), but it looks like it might have something to do with the new haunt. It's made to look as if they have all the test subjects they need and you're only able to enter your e-mail address for updates. You can read a little of the homepage behind the e-mail sign-up box. Most interesting is the fine print of the e-mail sign-up box:

"As the producers of Fury, security is our job, and we take it very seriously. As such, we will not share your email address with anyone, period. The weak and timid can unsubscribe from Fury at anytime."

Lol, I'm guessing that you weren't on Screamscape yesterday. There was a leak of information about the new maze.... well actually the new maze was accidentally released. The maze is called Fury and is basically based on the government creating bio weapons out of people. Though, apparently CF found out about the goof up, and has taken down the mazes page.

The link was listed earlier in this thread (on Tuesday). When you go there, the logo is gone now.

You all made me curious so I poked around a little bit. The IP address for Carowinds is routed to a Charlotte datacenter that I happen to be familiar with. I can see that the datacenter SWIPEd it to Paramount Parks:

http://whois.arin.net/rest/net/NET-66-129-123-0-1/pft

When I do a lookup on whatstherageabout.com it references a hosting company in Houston, TX. If this is related to the new maze at Carowinds, they're trying hard to cover their tracks.

The page itself is mostly just the background image:

http://whatstherageabout.com/images/background.jpg

Since they were nice enough to not disable directory browsing, you can see there are only 3 images in the images folder:

http://whatstherageabout.com/images/

The only other reference from the home page is a CSS sheet that doesn't really tell anything (except I found the background image reference that I noted above) and they are using Google Analytics to track page hits/traffic.

The most helpful information is in the index.php file (or an external file that it references) but that runs server side so I'm not able to access it. I don't hack things so I can't find any additional info. All I listed here is what is publicly available about most sites.

EDIT: I just remembered to do a lookup and see that the domain name is registered to Yellow Submarine Marketing Communications, Inc., in Pittsburgh, PA. (on 8/8/11 to be exact).

2ND EDIT: Aha! I found the connection. If you check out their site http://yellowsubmarketing.com/work.php you'll see they have done past marketing for Cedar Point, Kings Island, as well as at least one Intimidator ad for Carowinds. Based on that info, I'm quite certain this has to do with Carowinds and as has been mentioned on here, Scarowinds specifically.

Yea I am pretty sure the new maze Is defiantly fury. I posted a picture of the website and a comment on carowinds facebbok page and they took them down and kicked me from the page. So I just re liked it.

Yea, I'm pretty sure that Fury is the maze too. The link from Screamscape was finally disabled also. And I posted a response on the fb page, and they messaged me telling me not to do it again

Lol, well I think everybody on here already knows what the new maze is. Nonetheless, just in case everything yesterday was just a false lead, I'll be tuning in.

I just wish they'd learn how to suppress the entire email list before they send something out ;).

I wish I could go on Saturday but I'll be riding Texas Giant.

Yea, it really is. The Carolina Board walk would be a good place for a scare zone. Or maybe even the walkway that runs underneath nighthawk.

Quantity wise, yes. They could use one or two more. Maybe a western themed one (not a theme I see very often) or a prison break themed one.

Quality wise, no. Feeding Frenzy, The Playground, and The Cemetery may be the only zones, but they are definitely awesome if stick around for more than a minute walking through. The actors there can pose for photos, speak with you for more than just a jump out from around the corner, and openly use the environment for constant improv while maintaining a character.

So, all in all, I think Carowinds is doing fine with the scare zones right now. There aren't many, but the ones we do have ROCK!
