General Carowinds discussion

I can already see a big logo burned into the wood where WWF's sign used to be.

From a design perspective, I hope they make the bottoms of the double "P"s in CoPPerhead look like fangs. They'll probably want to incorporate an actual snake character into their logo as well, for the inevitable stuffed mascot toy sales. Plus it makes the coaster feel more alive.

Hopefully the park continues the trend of adding brick pavers over in that area as well when the time comes.

Those on here who have ridden them have ranked them highly among other coasters. However, what WE feel would be better does not matter to the park. Enthusiasts are a minute portion of the park’s attendance. So whatever they’re adding should be pretty appealing to the vast majority of visitors to Carowinds.

As much as I love wooden coasters, a launch coaster is going to be very popular with the park. Time Traveler and Icon both look great and Manta West gets positive reaction from people I've talked to. I'm happy we are even getting a coaster, have you seen how long KD just went before Twisted Timbers? Dorney? Worlds of Fun? This ride could easily be top 3 in the park and much better than a B&M dive machine going to our friends in Canada.

Why do so many people seem to think a launch coaster has to go 90MPH to be thrilling?

Mack's launched megas have taken Europe by storm. They're considered among the best rides on the continent. And Carowinds may very well be getting the first one in North or South America? That's something to be excited about, height and speed be damned. Looks can be deceiving.

There are a ton of pavers under fury! Pictures are on my Facebook page. I think the entire old county fair area will get a makeover with pavers and Flying Eagles, name confirmed in the parks disability guide. I to think wwf old entry will be re used just not sure for the coaster or not. I could also see a path going all the way around and a few other flat rides.....

Mack launch coasters are very expensive. Time Traveler cost 26 million and Icon clocks in at 30. That makes them as expensive as Fury. Keep in mind, the reason you don't see more gigas is because of the high cost. This could be the reason why few of these type Macks are in the US, -park simply can't afford them.
If this is indeed a Mack two launch coaster, it could be Cedar Fair's expensive purchase for 2019. Valravn cost about 25 mil, but the Wonderland dive machine appears to larger.

An Icon-ish ride would put Carowinds on the map. I know, I know, we have heard that before, but at the end of the day we always end up being one coaster away from greatness.

I think all the dirt is being brought in because they removed alot of bad dirt. yes you can have bad dirt. Doesnt compact well etc. in order to build on top of it, they have to replace it with dirt that is more supportive.

You do realize that they removed concrete which likely had layers of gravel and sand under it?

I also suspect the black stuff was a geogrid material.

If you remember WWF station sat a good 5-10 below Dodgems in elevation. Add in the dept of splash down plus it’s concrete, sand and gravel....
You are easily looking at they are filling in a 15-25 feet deep low spot if you assume level with Dodgems.

I like my explanation better. :D

I wouldn’t think that Carowinds would keep the old WWF entrance for the coaster. I mean, it’s not the best. That’s just my opinion though. With Carolina harbor opening next week this project is going to be shown to everybody and it’s just getting started too.

I believe there is some historical significance to that structure. I think it was an original structure from when the park first opened. If so, I'm sure they would like to keep it if at all possible.
