I'm sure he's torn down a lot of memorable places.

Plus he's from Philly, he's not from around here so he wouldn't have any real ties to the place.

I wish I had video of the guy cussing them out from across the road. lol

He should have been cussing B&C not them!

Ugh. Not only do they tear everything down, but they hire someone from PHILLY to do it? NOBODY involved with this has any soul. May the hotel and retail complex at the site be a colossal failure.

I wonder if they saved ANY props from the dark ride. At least some of the props had to be worth something you'd think.

While Hurricane was one of my least-favorite coasters, ranking right down there with Sonny and Mean Squeak, I certainly didn't want it torn down. Some TLC and it wouldn't have been bad. At least it sounds like the Mad Mouse will be relocated.

This whole situation sucks. I only went to the park as an enthusiast once in 2003, but I really liked the place. The Gravitron provided some quite memorable rides, the Haunted Hotel was pretty good, and the entire place had a unique feel to it. I know many people who are not enthusiasts at all that are really upset about this turn of events, since most anybody from the Carolinas had been to the park and / or the Attic at some point.

Although I have my doubts it'll happen, hopefully Family Kingdom can gain some business from people looking for "the amusement park on the beach" and stay alive for a long time to come. That funky little place would be a shame to lose, and we won't even mention how horrible it'd be for the excellent little Swamp Fox to meet the fate of Hurricane.

Hey Maybe the evil ghost that haunts Magic Harbor will go haunt the Pavilion site until they build another park there. lol :D

I've been watching too much sci/fi channel lately.

Thank you Ken. This madness has to stop! Seaside parks will be a thing of the past before long.

I talked with Donnie Sipes, FK GM, quite extensively (by phone & in person) when planning the ACE event back in Sept '06.

He is not only preparing for a surge in business this summer, he is expecting a surge in business. I hope he is right.

He says the owners of FK have no plans to sell the park anytime soon. He even told me they hoping to add more rides and another coaster within the next 5 years. That sounds good to me. Image

I think more than ever, the owners of FK realize they now have a monopoly in Myrtle Beach. The only ocean front amusement park.

Who Knows, maybe the owners of FK will even clean it up to suit the visual appeal of these deranged people that think it's a dump. It still kills me to hear people say that. It's not suppose to be Disney or Busch park!!! OK, I'll stop.....
Anyway, ya'll know about my passionate love affair with the Swamp Fox, so obviously I will defend this little park forever, til the end. It's more sentimental than anything. And I don't care what anybody says, but rounding that 180 after the lift hill, and looking out over the ocean just before the plunge is simply awe-inspiring! I'll be doing that til whoever goes first, me or swampy.

BTW, I am working with Donnie for an event in '07. Tentively set for Sept 9, the day after C3, so this will be another prime opportunity to show any support we can. More on that later.

Awesome news on FK, Ken. They seemed content in the past to play second fiddle to The Pavilion, so I wasn't sure how aggressive they were going to be to pick up the slack. It sure sounds like they see the opportunity here, and are going to try to thrive and not just survive. This boosts my outlook quite a bit......

....IF the people DO show up. They could do really well if the people show up and they really are ready for them. It would seem logical that they should see those increases, since they're only 6 blocks away from where the Pavilion was. People being fickle, though, you never know. I rarely say this, but I hope the next time I go I have to wait in some decent-sized lines to ride :P

How did they get Ivan the Terrible to do an interview?

You have to look at this this way. The guy is just doing the job that he was hired to do and to him it is just a job. Some people see it in a diffrent light and think this guy along with his company are bad guys. They have to earn money to put bread on the table.

I am really sad about the Pavilion being torn down...I mean it was bascially mty destresser during the start of school I would always go with a few friends and we would blow off steam almost every other Saturday riding the rides. Anyway, we tried out Family Kingdom this year too(i had been before but they hadn't) and we all really enjoyed it. So it is now our new Saturday Getaway spot. Swamp Fox was great! I hope in the next 5 years they stick a good Twister wooden roller coaster there.

I think that they will get more business this year because not only will they be the only beachside amusement park in North and South Carolina anymore, they will be the only Amusement park in Myrtle Beach that is worth going to. The only thing they have to be careful of is 2008 when Hard Rock Park opens (if all goes well) they might loose some business to them. But this next season should be great for them.
