General Carowinds discussion

Ugh.

Nothing for the dry side and no slides. A second wave pool and the remainder of the stuff they said they were going to do in 2006. And as far as we know we're still losing Saturator.

I'm even more underwhelmed than I thought I'd be - and that's quite an accomplishment. In effect, they will have spent 3 years to retheme the waterpark, add a wave pool and heated pool, lots of beach chairs, and move Frenzoid. Oh, and remove a coaster.

Sure, the wave pool was often packed, and a second one was needed - far more than the wading pool they added in 2006 which doesn't seem to get that much use. The problem is, slide lines on a busy day were ridiculously long. Same with the lazy river. Adding a second wave pool while closing Saturator surely won't help the lines for the slides - more of those were desperately needed.

Ignoring the dry park also seems like a bad idea. Not even a hand-me-down from GL? It's not like I was desperately awaiting the Boomerang or anything, but something would be nice. To much of the general public, it's going to seem like the park hasn't added ANYTHING since BORG. Sure, we know about the Flyers, but since they're in the kiddie area lots of people won't count them. Moving and renaming Frenzoid doesn't count as a new ride, either.

Looks like this will be the first time since 2001 I haven't had a season pass. Hello SFOG, Dollywood, BGE, and Myrtle Beach.....

It will be the first year since 2003 I won't be buying a season pass to any park.

Before 03 I had probably bought a season pass for 5 or 6 years straight and then started to get bored with the park until they added Borg.

But frankly I AM bored with the park again and until they add something worth riding besides Top Gun, they won't be getting my money for a season pass.

I think it's rediculous they couldn't have gotten a couple flat rides from Geagua Lake. Come on Cedar unFair. Get with it.

 I am stunned at how lame this is...I haven't been to Boomarang Bay in 2 years! Yeah I know its popular, but this still comes as a shock...at least they announced a 2009 attraction for CGA to soften its low key 2008 additions. Throw us a 2009 bone for goodness sake! No Carowinds season passes for me...still mulling over getting KD season passes for '08. Very disappointing. :(

I will say that the new Bahari wave pool at Holiday World was AWESOME and maybe even my favorite part of the waterpark; if it is anything like that (I kind of have my doubts) it will be a good addition. I agree though that it seems really silly to add another pool and once again no slides. From a business standpoint I understand the waterpark addition; that is simply what people seem to want these days. But from a personal standpoint I could care less. If I go to the park next year it will be for C3, and that's it. Part of that has to do with the fact that I might not even be living anywhere near the park, but like the rest of you I just need something fresh to keep my attention. Obviously I'm just guessing here, but I would have to think that a lot of the average guests feel similar. Borg was the last adult ride; if it wasn't for the flyers I personally would have reached this point with the park much sooner. But, oh well. I hope they do well next year, and look forward to the next big thrill ride, which I DO believe is on its way sometime in the two or three years.

The water park is packed at mid-day, but also look at the rides part of Carowinds during mid-day also. Both sections of the park are packed and the water park is very small and stays elbow to elbow due to limited space for such a crowd. CF needs to cater to both sides as they are equal in importance! Atleast the park stays full in all areas or we might would be another GL!!!

The problem with Carowinds is that they have no competition at all. People will still come to the park anyways, plus we are in a fast growing metro area so there's always new people. If they only built Busch Gardens in Greensboro like they originally planned to!

Okay, I figured we'd get an expansion real soon after they re-did the park in the first place...But what?! Okay, yes, the wavepool addition is a good idea, the cabanas are a GREAT idea, but where are the freakin slides? I haven't done a waterpark in a long time, but this one is lacking. A proslide tornado and/or bowls are almost required now a days.

Jeesh.

I just hope 2009 gets some thrill rides.

Oh, and on the bright side, doesn't look as boomerang is coming. At least not yet.

I was REALLY hoping to get a Yo-Yo from GL. I was also expecting that if it was a water park expanssion, we could get a tornado.

And now I wonder why they are taking out FSS if nothing is going to take its place!

Well if Scott has been told accurate information, the future looks good for the park in the future (in the area of major additions).

He seemed to hint to us at C3 not to expect too much for 2008.

I wouldn't be surprised though if attendance fell off a bit at the park next year.

My sources told me that we were supposed to get Flight of Fear this year and that got yanked by Cedar Fair, so that kinda screwed up plans I guess.

I don't think we would've minded the water expansion so much if we had gotten FOF in 07.

I remember a survey I took during the 2005 season about future plans that Paramount was considering for the park. The list of ideas was Italian stunt job, Tomb Raider, Boomerang bay, and I think a new 4D theatre or show? With the Boomerang Bay items listed were cabanas with 5 star huts and interactive childrens water area. It seems that CF is still building on what Paramount had plan except for the move of Flight of Flear last year. If we would have got FOF last year, then the '08 news would not be as bad. 2009 might be CF's first attempt away from what Paramount had planned! Also, I do believe that Paramount had already planned for Southern Star to be as it is now.

Guess I may as well have 3 posts on the site...

1. You guys suck that you have the flyers. No offense, but I'm still sour, cause those were originally our's.
2. Kings Island hasn't even announced what's new for 2008, if anything. I'd rather get a new wave pool, and we could use a new one, than nothing.
3. You guys are complaining that you have two kid pools. We have three kid pools, all lined up, in an area that could hold an AMAZING water coaster. But instead we have a pirate ship, fort, and playground water pool areas. <_<

But yeah. And I do wonder if anything interactive, besides those geysers, will be added.

This blows..........

another stinking waterpark expansion.

Hey Cedarfair, we have a REAL waterpark just up the road in Greensboro.

Enjoy the shorter lines and lower attendance in 2008.

Now, another long year of waiting begins................

OH, by the way, Cedarfair....

I haven't been to Carowinds in 2 years..... now make it 3.

Been spending my money in parks that actually WANT you to come there again and again......

Actually, they were originally Coney Island Ohios' Flyers. Regardless, I still feel your pain. Especially when I get a really good SNAP!! OUCH!! :D
