General Carowinds discussion

Anthony! So glad you joined CC!

I'm Wes by the way, I'm the one that is on there riding about once a week, or just look at my website figure out who I am.

Anyway the Phantom Queen song was hilarious, we all busted out laughing.

I don't know (honestly) why I was snapping so wildly, but I can only imagine that with 9 other tubs snapping at the same time, it helps a bit.

To echo Jarvis, thanks for getting up so early! I know that is not a fun part of doing one of these events. And your sidekick is the church lady (not in a bad way)now in my mind, after what Jarvis said in his trip report. She really sounds sweet and I can't believe I've never seen her out there before.

You rock Anthony, keep up the good work!

p.s. Get ready to be requested by this group again for C3 in September!

Well, that and being one of 5 people on my run on Nighthawk. Nice and quiet there. But watching you nutcases on Flyers was hilarious!!

Anthony, coming from a former ride op (not at Carowinds, though; 4 seasons at our little park on Panama City Beach, 5 years at Universal Orlando), I can say it is obvious you love your job. And enjoy it as much as possible, ride ops is the best job I ever had, and would go back in a heartbeat. Wherever you end up next year, we will find you. :)

April, you are so right about ride op positions. There's something magical about it when the operator embraces it fully.

If I ever work at Universal Studios I've already decided that Jaws is my ride. I love acting and I would absolutly terrify the guest with that boat captian role. Especially, when the boat engine dies inside the dark boathouse after the first shark fin is sighted, and things start falling over into the water all while trying to restart the dead engine and calling out for help on the dead, static filled radio. Man! That would be Scarowinds everytime I go to work!

Universal Studios Trivia: On rides like Jaws, and the old King Kong (now The Mummy), ride ops must memorize the official ride script word for word. If they are caught deviating from the script by one word they could lose their job.

What rides did you work on in those parKs April?

Well, Thank You Wes for the big welcome aboard!! Originally I was only going to do the official one post, but this is really becoming addictive and I can see why you guys do it.
My props to Jonathan for creating such an interesting site.

coasterbruh wrote:THANK YOU for being up early that morning lol...it seems carowinds is a close knit park that allows the employees to be themselves. It was nice meeting you and your side kick!

Believe it or not Jarvis, I awoke that morning at 2:30 with so much excitment I could not go back to sleep. You would have thought I was a kid and it was Christmas Day. Talk about a long day. I had one.

I will tell Miss. Linda of all your compliments to her from this site.

I love the way the ride ops have a lot of energy this year and now say their names, and I like the RIDE ON as well... Could you imagine an on board sound system on the new coaster and Anthony singing on it.... HAHAHA

Now that's pretty freakin’ hilarious!

You are a great asset to the park, and I enjoyed your sense of humor during the ERT. Thank you so much for taking the time to fulfill our request to have you at our ERT and I will see you around on my next visit to Carowinds in the near future.

If it is a new coaster, I'm sure I'd be touching a lot of people while checking their lap bars and chest restraints all day.

Now where did I put that hand sanitizer?

It was pretty fun. You assistant did a pretty darn good job as well. Coaster stock was awesome. I very much enjoyed that and all the ERTs.

Was that you I heard laughing during my climactic solo? Wait till it's time for your act.

Seriously though, I'm glad you had a good time. It was a fun day for everybody.

Now if you ever operated Jaws, I would make a special trip to orlando just to see you operate it. Heck maybe even the Jungle Cruise would be good for you, you could improv on that.

However I really want to see you operate the new attraction.

Oh yes it is addicting, welcome to the madness

patrick2pointoh wrote:Anthony you probably don't remember my name, it's Patrick (usually my username is patrick2pointoh, will return to that soon). I have talked with you personally a few times, you gave me 3 free rides in a row the day before coasterstock : ) . You make my day everytime I go to the flyers. Your singing, joking, and contests have brought even more life to the flyers. We had a very good, my favorite of all time, session on them and I thank you for making them one of the, if not the best ert session that we had all day.

I think it would be very cool to see you operating a coaster...ummm I mean supervise the shuffleboard, parking garage, kiddie pool expansion! You would be missed at flyers, however I love to see what you would do at the new attraction for 2010. So I am all for you working it!

I will probably see you sometime in the park when I go back next week!

Hold on tight, cause your ship's about to take flight!

Patrick

Don't forget, it's also gonna be the worlds largest mud wrestling pit ;) Yea, Anthony, you guys were great, despite the fact that I did get sick on possibly my one and only ride on the flyers. I may give them another on another day when maybe I haven't eaten at Shoneys, lol.

OK, now we're wandering off topic, but .....

You'd be awesome on the Jaws ride. "Welcome aboard Captain Jake's Amity Boat Tours, THE BEST!!! (and only) scenic cruise on the island!" Yes, you do have to memorize the script at the spieling atrractions (Kong RIP, Quake and Jaws) but you don't get fired if you mess up a word. It does count off on you if you're getting an evaluation, but you won't get fired. Unless you cuss out someone or something completely wrong like that. Plus there's plenty of time to improv, like when you come around the corner and Bridge Kong's head (or nipple) has fallen off. Yes, that actually happened. And I don't even want to *THINK* about how may times the shark fails to make an appearance in the Jaws lagoon.

I worked there from 97 - 02, and had a BLAST!!! You work at the same ride every day, so your co-workers become like family (at least they were at Quake). Plus, where else would I get paid overtime money (about $25/hr) to stand on stilts and watch the B-52's play a concert?!?! :)
