Before they do that they would just rip it out and add a shoot the rapids ride...

then again the raft ride at universal is themed and has two lifts, and that is a GREAT ride

[Nerd]I think you guys are on to something here!

It's a pretty plausible plan that would GREATLY improve a ride that quite frankly needs to be greatly improved. And I think Carowinds needs to start making improvements on these older rides. Make the park cleaner. Make the rides better. Improve the food. Restore/refurbish areas and attractions. Rather than add anything new, I think this is the path they need to take.

In the "big parks" like Disney World, do you ever smell that stale water/cheese smell? Well maybe here and there... But Carowinds reeks of that smell. And also things like gum on the ground, chipping paint, roller coasters that shake your brains out, etc etc.

With Charlotte growing, along with the addition of Intimidator and Windseeker, Carowinds attendance is bound to be hiked. So I think to stay on top of the game and start competing with other parks, Carowinds needs to make these improvements to the park. The RRR improvement is genius, swampfox.

JamminJ, this post pretty much didn't belong here... But I like the tie you're wearing today. It really matches your eyes well. And if you could leave this post, that would be sweet....thanksbye [/NerdedOut]

I 100% see your logic and you make excellent points but the current problem with carowinds is that their staff just isn't able to upkeep the park that well. I'm not sure if it's got to do with the size of the staff or the amount of training that they go through! I honestly believe that if we want a better park, then we should probably start with a better staff!

Ugh, what? Have you rode Rip Roarin' Rapids. They are usually quite a bit older. The one guy who comes to mind is probably in his 50s. He's a hoot and has worked there for many, many years. Not to mention that's a very poor generalization of teenagers.

It was a response to the recent posts above mine about staff being as good as management allows, and the call for better staffing for being unable to upkeep the park well. Not directed at Rapids alone, even though that ride has/had it's share. But yes, I know who you're talking about. He's a nice guy.

I stand by my opinion of the teenagers. Yes, some are good workers. More aren't. The fact is most of them aren't mature enough to take pride in their own work, and their lack of enthusiasm shows. They need incentives. Keep in mind it gets old working in the summer heat and dealing with so many people.

Incentives? Thats what their paycheck is for and the fact they have a job. Free admission to the park was enough for me.

As it was mentioned, one of the only feasible place to put it (without drastically changing the layout) would be where the final turn is. But wouldn't that make it a very steep incline to get to the loading platform . . . UNLESS they keep it at the same level-ish and have an elevator lift to get to to the height of the original starting point with kinda a dark ride/ tunnel section after the load area?

swampfox43 wrote:Simple solution. Rebuild the loading platform to accomodate the turntable loading process like the one pictured below. Most parks have these, but Carowinds, being one of the early birds in raft rides, does not. It certainly can be done, no question about that.

I think that would be hard because there is a huge elevation change where the boats go up the conveyer... which means a turntable has to be where the station is now. But they can't go much towards the park due to the buildings/shops. And going longer means taking out the boat containment area which would have to be moved somewhere else. Going towards the rest of the ride would affect the flume path.

Also going to bigger boats wouldn't work either since the whole ride would have to be redone.

One thing I could see working is if they had the same loading they do now, but add a second one to it, so the boats split into two loading areas and then merge back into the single trough. But would require double the ride attendants which would be costly long-term.

That was originally a whirlpool but it was turned off because it caused the water and boats to back up

tylerSC wrote:I remember the rapids ride was better way back when they first built it, but for some reason they toned it down and reduced the flow of the waves in the water. I'd rather them replace it with a bigger, better flume ride that has hills and curves, and is more of a water rollercoaster. To me, the rapids ride is rather boring, and I just spend my time on the rollercoasters.

They literally had boats turning upside down and people almost drowning. Plus water was backing up and boats weren't flowing well. So it was all redone and toned down.

Also about the staff... when I worked there it was a broad mix of young and old workers, and all of us worked hard. One of the biggest things was nobody ever knew how to put on the airplane seat belts so we had to help them all. Nowadays I don't know.. I've gone on rides like Goldrusher where the attendants don't seem to care about their jobs. And then like Fury where they seem to be on something and pushing riders as fast as they can.

As far as the rafts go, the 8-seater rafts like Infinity Falls use appear to be about the same size as the ones currently on RRR. That could help capacity a little. Are they compatible? I have no clue.

It’s always really interesting to see a old thread get revived and see what people were saying and thinking 6 years ago.

Looks like CF will atleast be changing something in the area, exciting!
