Why would park officials say they had ordered a specialized part to fix the skytower if they were just going to remove it?

if rumor goes round that a business is closing and the rumors are true then why do businesses address the rumors saying "Everything is fine, we will be in business for many years to come."?

The answer is fairly simple, it is the way business works. I ain't saying Skytower is coming down for sure but I will say that Skytower tested during the summer but has yet to reopen. Arrow Dynamics could manufacture a replacement section of coaster track in weeks maybe days, what is taking so long with Skytower?

To me the writing is on the wall, the Plantation House was just as much a park icon as Skytower, it was used in advertising for years. What makes anyone think Skytower is any different?

They have to bring in a crane about the same size to install Fury's lift, why not dismantle Skytower at the same time?

because removing skytower would not benefit the park at all. it has a very small foot print but adds to the areas skyline tremendously. Even if the skytower never worked again, keeping it up like a monument wouldnt be a bad idea.

Perhaps the park is waiting till next years budget. And Arrow Dynamics doesn't exist anymore so I'm not sure how you think they can create a new track piece in days...

^^Exact measurements and careful planning would need to be considered in order to replace the part of a ride whose designer no longer exists.

Ed, there was a roller coaster of theirs under construction and a crane fell on it. This was be in the late 80s or early 90s. I have a stack of company newsletters and flyers from that period in Arrow's history. It would still cost upkeep to keep Skytower if it is just a monument.

As far as putting it off until next year's budget......
Take a look at the 2006 Boomerang Bay expansion, it is sun faded.

RollerBee wrote:Icon or not, rumor went around early in the season of it's removal. Skytower has been SBNO most of the season, there are signs addressing this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't those signs flat out say that the ride will be "up and running again"? That sure doesn't sound like language Cedar Fair would use for a ride that's on the way out.

EDIT: here's the sign...

"Our beloved Carolina Skytower will be down for awhile. We are needing some new parts, since its one of our original rides from 1973 those parts are no longer in production and have to be custom made. We appreciate your patience while we work to get skytower up and running again."

From Scream Weaver, original topic, to Sky Tower takeover.

IF, they do anything with Scream Weaver my wish would be move it to the County Fair section. I ride it about every other trip and always felt it was out of place, just like the Scrambler.

Dude, creating a piece of track in the 80s and crearing
A custom part today are totally different. Like I said, Arrow isn't around anymore. So much like the part for sky tower, a piece of track would have to be custom made now.

As for the resto of the comment, why would they bother painting slides now when they're planning something major in that area in 2016? Put new paint in the budget for when they need it, not now when they don't.

THAT'S how businesses run.

Ok, explain why Saturator was repainted a couple seasons before removal.

If I remember correctly, Saturator was painted when Paramount still owned the park, then Cedar Fair bought it and took it out.

Yeah the last time saturator was painted was when Paramount was running things...

But that's still not the point.

No offense but my family ran a successful business for half a decade. I'm not saying that they're definitely waiting till next year due to the budget, the parts needed may not be ready. But waiting till the next budget or fiscal year (go on and google Fiscal, I'll wait) is a very common thing.

The guns and water system was also refubed in 2006.

For an attraction still running at the park. What's your point?
