General Carowinds discussion

Carowinds had a nice selection of vintage flats at one time. I would love to see the return of the Oaken Bucket (rotor). And for that matter, the Witchdoctor, an Eyerly Monster like CP has. Carowinds was also home to 2 flats which were, and still are, almost non-existent in the US today. The Waltzer and the Tagada. Better known as the Do-Se-Do and Surfer. The Surfer was a tamed down version but still fun. Both of those rides are plentiful in England today.

This is encouraging news. We need flats, and I would be ecstatic to get some vintage ones back in the park. Here are some links showing some of Carowinds vintage flats from the past.

I just want to know where do I apply for jobs such as this. I'd love to go on the hunt for classic rides being I'm a huge fan of them and have traveled to Europe several times to parks to enjoy them that have been in the US and the ones I've never seen before until that point in time. How do you get picked sheesh?

I agree with Mark. Swampfox just send that list to corporate. Bring those classics all back and more.

MarkD said "Maybe? County Fair could be entirely made up of these attractions?"

It's interesting that when I recall the history of my home park (KI) that was the EXACT intent that Taft Broadcasting had when creating the "Coney Mall" section opening in 1972. They basically removed all of the flats from old Coney Island down on the Ohio River and brought them up to Kings Island. We had all of the flats that Carowinds had and more. Seeing the Witchdoctor pic above made me think of my childhood riding our version called The Monster.
Heck they even modeled the entire section of Old Coney after the identical footprint of the original park . It was beautiful to say the least and I believe that it still remains that way to this day.

First pic of Old Coney Island circa 1961 followed by KI park map 1972

Imagine what our County Fair section would look like with all of the old flats returned and properly themed !

just a thought.....

I'd love to see a few classic flats (to me) at Carowind's county fair:

zipper
avalanche
tilt-a-whirl (or the more intense Do-Se-Do!)

I'd be happy to see an octopus, but less so than the three above.

But those are so common (except the Do-Se-Do), I wouldn't think they would need to travel across the pond to find those. I'd have to think they are looking for something a little more unique than those common ones. It'll be interesting to see what they bring back.

I would like to see that old Witchdoctor ride brought back, which many also know as Black Widow or Octopus. And there is a carnival ride they called Cobra I would like to see. It is sort of like Scrambler but is an elevated flying version. Those are 2 great flat rides. And a big ferris wheel, or even one of those double ferris wheels they used to always have at county fairs.
