It was but it didn't happen this season..

They didn't say it was going to. Earliest proposal was 2017. And timelines change.

"“(Cedar Fair CFO Brian) Witherow said Cedar Fair plans to do the same (floorless conversion) with other aging coasters in it’s portfolio, including one next year at it’s park near San Francisco.”"

I've seen it mentioned numerous times regarding where Carowinds would put this or that. The park really has a lot of available space to put rides. They could probably nearly double the size of the dry park without buying any more land or having to resort to very expensive parking garages. Even in the existing park they can add quite a few more rides and attractions with minimal expansion to the actual park footprint, including more coasters.

I really want to give my prediction for 2017 but I'll hold off for now...

Regardless of what someone was quoted as saying to a news paper, on CF's last or most previous conference call for investors, they didn't say that, and instead there was a PowerPoint presentation (that was on this site) that listed 2017 as the earliest possibility.

And that quote from June of last year could be accurate. They may plan to start converting one this year for next season.

I'm gonna try to get as many of these posted before they get me banned. My idea for a new section of Carowinds, Celebration Plaza:

The entrance to this section would be where Rip Roarin' Rapids' queue currently is. Rip Roarin's queue would be relocated to the showplace.

Instead of tearing down the Paladium, it would be turned into a new show venue for a Luminosity-type show. The roof would be removed. The seats would be shaded. During the day, it would be used for an All Wheels Extreme show.

A new indoor theater would be constructed as another escape from the heat.

A decently-sized Ferris Wheel (100 - 150 ft) would be constructed by Fury's first camelback, and Ricochet (and possibly Scrambler) would be relocated next to it.

A new tram stop would be constructed for resort guests. This way, they could get back to their rooms/cabins/tents immediately after Luminosity.

I think this might be the worst thing I've ever posted. Deep down, I'm proud about a lot of the things I post and only call them "bad" as a way to get pity (sad, I know). But this.... I don't even know why I posted this. It just got progressively worse as I went into more detail. Heheh...

Who knows Tarheel? Maybe someday one of your many ridiculous ideas may actually come to fruition. At least you’re not pitching parking decks..

Until you can get out more, you keep posting what makes you happy, and you're always welcome here. Better steels out there than Raptor though

FamousAmos for Carowinds President....
Tarheel has great ideas, I wouldn't be shocked if Carowinds does borrow one in the future. Anything is possible.

Thanks guys! As long as I've got this misplaced confidence, I'd like to share an idea that I'm proud of (mainly because it isn't completely insane). It's a slight tweaking of the plaza that would end the terrifying reign of the art deco architecture:

A new, larger main gift shop would open in place of the Carowinds stage under the name of "The Emporium," the name of the original Carowinds gift shop. The exterior would feature a modern, but still classic-looking clock tower.

Papa Luigi's would open in place of the Carowinds Cafe (though I don't know how long it will be staying since it looks it was recently repainted).

Instead of placing the fountain behind the planter, the fountain would be constructed in place of the planter with a larger, more noticeable state line sign.

The current gift shop, Premiers, would be replaced with a Nascar-themed restaurant similar to the Nascar Sports Grille that closed at CityWalk. It sounds bad to add that it closed, but it could work at Carowinds because:

1. Charlotte is practically the heart of Nascar.
2. (The less important reason) It's in the direction of Intimidator.

The other shopping locations like Crave and Personali-Tees would get slight touch-ups. They just look a bit outdated compared to the rest of the park. The state line would be repainted gold, because it still feels like it isn't emphasized it enough. It's the only theme park in the country in two states, and it seems to be an afterthought than a selling point. It should be really in-your-face!

I agree. The state line at the back of the park is marked by just a sign. Barely noticeable at all.

Back to your regularly-scheduled, insane wishlist:

The newest of my ideas that would ultimately run the park into the ground is an expansion/retheme of the Thrill Zone to "Classic Carolinas." It would include:

Large Wooden Coaster: Hurler would be a fine coaster if it got some more extensive TLC like Ghostrider. But the amount of land it occupies is pretty big, and there's a sizeable piece of land behind it. Plus, Hurler never seems to have a line despite being next to a giga coaster. Then again, I avoid busy days, so I might be (probably am) wrong.

In the event that Hurler goes bye-bye, I'd love to see a giant, record breaking woodie from Intamin or RMC (preferably Intamin). Something that runs along Catawba Trace that tries to eject you into outer space. It would be themed similar to Lightning Rod, but as a different vintage car instead of a hot rod.

Expansion Area: The space unoccupied by the coaster could probably be filled with flats, more shops, and an antique auto ride weaving through the woodie.

Thoughts?
