I guess that I am in the minority on this one. I appreciate the history when it comes to Thunder Road, but to be honest, I have been on Thunder Road once in the last ten years. I rode it last year and the only word that I can use to describe the experience was "rough". I can understand the need for CF to look at it from a financial point of view.

Having said that. I hope that they don't just use the space for a water park expansion. I'm just not a fan of the water park. It is great for the people that like to go there. I'm all about the rides. So, I will settle for a compromise and maybe a wet ride (or 2). That is a lot of real estate they will have to work with. It will be exciting to see what is ahead. I hope that in the end we will all be as excited about the new stuff as when Fury 325 was being built. Ok, I know nothing can compare to Fury 325...but maybe something exciting still.

This was to me the 4th best ride in the park behind the big 3 and even though there was already a decent sized gap between them, there is now a huge gap.

I've never been a fan of water rides and Im not huge on water parks (in fact I thought the 2014 additions should hold off boomerang bay expansions for at least another couple years). So I'm not expecting this to be even close to worth it unless we get a "good" coaster to make it the big 4 instead of 3.

Very true. I am very sad to hear about Thunder Road. Every park always has an "untouchable" classic ride, and I thought this was Carowinds'.

I hope Cedar Fair doesn't continue to close wooden coasters and this is a one time deal. As sad as I am, one isn't as bad as 20, and 0 isn't as bad as 1.

I agree the replacement probably won't be worth it, but the park's undergoing the Cedar Fair treatment. B&M Hyper, B&M Giga, and Waterpark.

Just keep looking forward... even though the park won't be nearly as fun without Thunder Road.

Does anyone know why Rebel Yell and The Racer both got ACE Coaster Landmark awards but Thunder Road did not? The only think I can think of is that Racer was first by a few years and Rebel Yell used to be on that big lake.

My mentality is all about roller coasters and thrill rides. I realize it's not all about me, and everyone has different tastes. When I go to Carowinds or any other park, it's to ride the thrill rides. I'm the first to admit I'm happy that Cedar Fair bought Carowinds and what they are doing for the park and seeing its potential due to the CLT market becoming so large. In my mind, they are taking one of the better coasters in the park out of their collection. It's in the way of the water park but for me the water park is useless (but for others its not), I get that. I guess it's just a case of being in the wrong place in the park. I'm all for them adding massive thrill rides, better food, new entrance and all that. I just wish they would ADD to what they already have and not take anything GOOD away......I would not shed a tear if vortex or hurler were being taken out though. But Thunder Road is a much better wooden coaster than hurler.....I guess it's progress. But I'm not one of the "Cedar Fair must burn" people, that's for sure. They are so much better than Paramount ever thought about being. It's too bad hurler or Vortex is in the way of a water park expansion instead of TR.

I won't lie I will shed a tear for Hurler when it comes down, but it won't be like Thunder Road is. However the day Vortex comes down, I will "dancing on it's grave"!

I just don't like it, I ride it once a year and after that only when it is walk on. Reptar can take a hike with it.

If it's true that the removal of Thunder Road is required to expand the water park, well, that's just plain silly. It's right up there with having to demolish a house because the HVAC has to be replaced. The removal of Thunder Road will leave a huge hole in the Carowinds coaster collection. I hope there's more to this story.

I also was already deeply saddened by the front entrance redesign, and am not too happy with how expensive season passes have become. This is all making me fear for how I will feel about visiting Carowinds in the future... ):

This statement kills me every time. People expect for new rides, attractions and options to come to a park and not expect ticket sales and passes to go up. How else are you going to keep up with the maintenance or enjoy not paying per ride. Fine lets drop ticket and pass prices and pay $6.50 to ride Fury325, $5 for Intimidator, etc. per ride. The waterpark would most like be a separate admission of $45+ dollars itself. Which do you want. smh

Am I the only one that is ok with this? I mean don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed the times I've had on TR but I think its time for it to go. TR always annoyed me when I was in the waterpark because its so loud. Nothing says relaxing in the waterpark like Thunder Road going past.

What are you talking about. I not a big waterpark person, however when I do venture into the area I love seeing TR fly past. It makes me feel like I'm at a beach side amusement park.
