Continuing with Cedar Fair's new long term strategy of bringing interactive and immersive family attractions to the parks, I was wondering how the park could bring in a Disney or Universal-level E-Ticket dark ride without breaking the bank. And then it hit me: you remove the
ride. This next concept would be a way to bring the never-realized mine ride concept from the park's past into the future, only this time, as a special-effects walkthrough attraction similar Temple del Fuego at Port Aventura, or Poseidon's Fury at Islands of Adventure.

I don't really have a story idea for this one, but as far as the attraction goes, it would be themed to a haunted mine. The entrance would take over this side of the Chickie's and Pete's building, which is AFAIK is currently used as the quickstop version of the restaurant:

The queue would go around Cyclone's lifthill turn, and eventually into a large, 50 foot showbuilding. The facade would not have to be extremely detailed due to the attraction being themed to a mine. Just a rusty paint job and some shattered windows would make it believable.
Once inside the building, guests would enter an mine shaft-themed elevator that would take them to the top floor, though the illusion would be similar to Gringotts in that guests would think they had been taken several stories underground. The walkthrough would have a tour guide, and the tour would take them through about 5-6 show scenes.
There would be an elevation change of around 15-20 feet, so it would never actually be at ground level (though one of the ideas I had for a show scene would be a giant cavern that guests enter near the top of, with the height spanning the entire building's height. Think of the "Glory Hole” on Calico Mine Ride).
The finale would involve an explosion using lighting and fog effects. Guests would make it to the other elevator shaft just in time, before being hoisted up (down) back to the surface.

This attraction would be heavily-themed, able to operate year-round, and if most of the effects were media-based, the park could easily add overlays to make it more intense during SCarowinds, or more family-friendly during Winterfest. It's versatile in that it could be an escape from the heat, rain, storms, or cold weather. Also, since the attraction doesn't take place at the ground level, part of the building could be used as a storage bay for the offseason. On top of all this, this attraction would give the park an excuse to retheme Carolina Boardwalk back to Frontier Outpost, as an old mining town.
