I've got another long-winded concept, so hold on tight! This is my idea for the renovation of Thrill Zone.
I'd like to start with a mini-rant in saying that Thrill Zone is IMO the worst section of the park visually. I know the back section of Crossroads/old County Fair is also outdated, but it still has more in the way of trees and scenery to compensate for it. Thrill Zone, more than any other section of the park, feels like a relic from the Paramount era with no real personality. I don't mean to discredit the park landscapers/architects who have worked on maintaining it, because they do a fantastic job of cleaning the park. But at a base level, this section is an eclectic mix of 50's and 90's theming, not being able to be identified as either. And that's a shame when it's home to one of the best rollercoasters on the planet.
So with that out of the way, I'd like to introduce the Energy Expo! A showcase of the technologies that will power the future of the Carolinas:
It's somewhat of a Tomorrowland futuristic-style land, but instead of feeling as if it takes place in the future, it's more of a tech-expo, showing preliminary versions of things we could see in the future. There's also a bit of science fiction thrown in there, so it isn't limited by the constraints of reality. Now onto the attractions:
1. Spinergy- This is an indoor, launched spinning coaster built by Mack. The theme is that you're taking a tour of a nuclear facility, when all of a sudden, the building experiences a power surge. There's a blackout. Your cars begin to glow and spin, and out of nowhere, they launch into the darkness, careening around the facility. Random pockets of "radiation" illuminate your journey, but otherwise, the experience is in the dark.
For the ride itself, the loading area would be a dual-loading system, with each train traveling onto a switchtrack after leaving the station. It would launch into a showbuilding, similar to Flight of Fear. Also similar to FoF, there would be a MCBR in the middle of the course to allow for more trains. This would fill a gap in the park's lineup, as there is not an indoor coaster, and more indoor attractions are critical in the brutal summer heat that the Carolinas experience.
2. FusionFall- The showbuilding for Spinergy is combined with a new building housing the queue around Drop Tower. It's themed to a nuclear fusion reactor, where riders board at the "core", rise up through a Smokestack (~60 ft on the tower), and fall back through once the "fusion" is achieved. The stack would emit mist similar to the tunnel on Afterburn, and aesthetically, it would look like this:
3. Hurler- I couldn't really think of how a coaster like Hurler would fit into a futuristic section until now. I think the ride's wooden aesthetic lends itself well to an attraction based on biofuel. So theming it to something around ethanol or some other plant-based source of energy could work.
4. Rollercoaster Restaurant- I think this fits in with the tech-expo area just since there's only 8 of them around the world, and it has a unique and unorthodox way of delivering food. It would be an attraction in and of itself, and it would be totally unique to North America. It's also a full-service restaurant which is something the park lacks.
5. Generotor- A portmanteau of 'Generator' and 'Rotor', Screamweaver would receive a new name and lighting package, along with a new silver and blue paint job. The lighting package would really stand out at night, as the spinning adds to the spectacle.
Other- The elephant in the room here is Fury, but it really doesn't need a retheme. It's new, and the ride already has a futuristic look to it. The concept is really designed around Fury moreso than trying to make it fit in.
The overall design of the land would be similar to Tomorrowland in Shanghai:
Overall, I think this would take Thrill Zone from being the worst section in the park to the best, as it would have the most theming and highest quality of attractions than any other section in the park. Right now, Fury's the only real draw back there. But this overhaul and these new attractions would make it a spot to spend hours in, like Blue Ridge Junction and County Fair.
