I kept stalking jeff lol. I left around 10ish. I have to say, I was impressed with scarowinds. I couldn't pick a better night to return after an over 10 year hiatus. Crowds were non existent and the atmosphere was really good. I managed to do 6 of 7 (didn't go back to cornstalkers) plus multi rides on top . . . Err afterburn, intimidator and fury 325 with my god son who is now tall enough eat and walk around in all of 3 hours. Ok on a scale system this is how I felt:
8/10 for house sets.
Each of the house I went in were extremely detailed. I cannot pick a house that fell in a bottom category as they were all overly decorated and no dead spaces. Props, props and more props galore! Slaughter house and cinema screams were the stand out houses.
5/10 for scares.
Maybe being a haunt veteran going from park to park all these years have made me numb but I really wasn't all that scared in any houses. Now, I did get some jump scares that were really funny. But nothing to make me scream like when I was a novice. I feel if the scareactors weren't so visible up front and had actual scare tactics, my overall could change.
10/10 for scareactors.
Lots of energy going on here! You guys don't realize it but a lot of haunts rely on pre-recorded audio triggered by buttons that the scareactors press to activate the accompany their scare. The scareactors were creative, in their element and never missed a beat, in the house and on the streets. I was even told last laff was that way lol. It took me a minute to register then oohhh hahahaha.
9/10 for atmosphere.
The scarezones were phenomenal! They were virtually outside houses. They were nice sized and filled with scenery to transport you from the midway into the world of that particular zone. Now, if each house had an outside facade that would have made this a solid 10 for me. However, I understand its better to put the budget inside the house in most cases.
Overall a solid haunt event for the south east and definitely worth the gate admission price if I must say so myself. I look st it like this. Most independent local haunts cost 15-20 a pop. Why should we have a problem paying 50-60 for SCarowinds when pound for pound, it really comes to less than 10 per house, not to mention the scarezones AND the rides/coasters. So in closing . . .
GO TO SCAROWINDS, and take a friend or 3!
