General Carowinds discussion

Before we read too into the “biggest announcement” stuff:

I get inflation and all but I don’t see a dive coaster that’ll end up a couple thousand feet shorter than Levi being their biggest announcement in history neither. Also Kings Dominion used the same words for Twisted Timbers and we know it certainly didn’t cost more than I305. Yeah they also included Winterfest and I believe their spin on it was biggest in terms of amount of additions? Can’t remember.

Also lol to the 5:30 am announcement, least I’ll be able to catch it before work.

I am also intrigued by the 530 reference and the possibility that that it has a speed of 53 miles per hour. While it doesn't sound super thrilling, White Lightning was an awesome ride at 53 miles per hour. Also I have been saying for some time that Carowinds is missing a good launch coaster (like a Verbolten at Busch Gardens, VA). Well, guess what Verbolten's speed is??? 53 mph!!! Could this be a multi-launch coaster with some cool features (partially indoors, drop track etc.)? Clearly, it looks to have a moonshine runner theme (again throwback to White Lightening...). And please, please let it have a height restriction around 48 inches (my thrill-seeking kiddos are short). BTW, one of my kids spotted some red shiny ride pieces from Carolina Goldrush....

buy some flip flops and some super glue.

^ Haha that hilarious!

Here are a couple of pictures of supports today:

These supports were not there on Friday, so I guess they came yesterday, or possibly just had not been put in this spot Friday, not sure. I dont know exactly how many supports are on site, I was going to count but never did....

On a side note Kyle Stephens sent me over this nice aerial shot of the construction area and you can really see the area for the flyers (or whatever ride they are putting there) as well as the queue, which doesnt seem very larg.... and the exit. I did not have a chance to ride windseeker or skytower, but I dont take pictures from windseeker anyways...

Ah cool, the may have came yesterday or maybe even over the weekend, as my friend was told another delivery was going to be here over the weekend, that was on Thursday and then Friday they had the gate open and the other supports on the far right were there, and the workers were still out there, one driving a forklift and some other sitting on the supports  They are placing them strangely haha.

Very possible, I tried to get a look at the bottoms to see what kind of numbers were on them haha. Id say there is definitely a reason and logic to why they are doing it the way they are, and those orange boxes must be to separate or something

So... maybe here is where our 530 (Granny recipe) reference comes in, Carowinds will announce on 8/30 @ 5:30am similar to CW.

I caught that too lol.

I'll be shocked if it doesn't. Something always gets leaked. It's inevitable.

This is why you don't give media or anyone material until the announcement is made. Easy fix

Extremely short ride but looks fun.

Looking at the pic took from windseeker, the new flat or flyers pad that they are prepping is awfully far back from the midway, then again I have to remember they brought the construction wall up quite a bit at the beginning of the season. I’d say this pretty much confirms the new midway from the entrance to crossroads. But why the heck would they be focusing so much on the flyers right now? I doubt they would have it open for Winterfest but I could be wrong, it’s just all so confusing.

Doesn't it make sense that the timing of the big announcement will be before anything too revealing starts to happen with the construction?

Looking today, the site footprint doesn't look to accommodate anything too fast or high. But I still expect there to be something "record breaking" about this new coaster. Just another coaster, even if very appealing, will be a let down after the "epic" (their word, not mine) build-up.

the path to dodgems seems more likely from the latest aerial pic overlooking the new flat ride concrete pad (flyers probably). I say that because looking at google earth, there's a screening fence behind boo blasters back service area/loading dock that's visible in the satellite view, but removed in the construction view. So my theory it's been taken down to either expand the path right next to it (but they'd still need a service entrance wouldn't they? so maybe that's too close), OR perhaps more likely, they'd bring the path from dodgems around the backside of the flyers and curve around to crossroads.

the two path options are in red, both coming out to the game booths where granny was seen hiding. yellow shows the wall removed. more "scenic" getting the path farther away from the back of boo blasters as the area can be landscaped. i didn't mark it on the satellite pic, but the flyers pad looks to be approximately located at the spot in yellow where the "elbow" is...the 90 degree turn. confusing because the rapids ride is still shown.
