General Carowinds discussion

DarK Ei8ht wrote:I feel the need to share this. I was walking to my car after visiting the park tonight and overheard some guy telling his friends about the "new coasters". He told them that Carowinds is building a coaster over 300+ feet called Fury 325 next year which is partially true, but he added that they were adding a "launched wing coaster" in 2016. Does Carowinds even have money for this? I was kind of chuckling but pondering at the same time. This doesn't seem possible, but I would love it to happen nonetheless. This guy knew what he was talking about too as he mentioned B&M would be manufacturing both. On a side note he said Carowinds will also receive a flat ride next year. I don't think this is all true but its interesting nevertheless. Any thoughts on this?

He might have mistakenly reffered to the launched wing coaster planned to be built at Holiday World in 2015 by B&M...

I mentioned something 200+ pages ago about the records they could break with this thing and I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not but could we be looking at the fastest non-launched coaster in the world? At 325' high, it's certainly possible to break 100mph.

Steel Dragon comes in at 95mph at it's 318' so maybe with another 7 feet we can hit another mph or two, lol. We only need to hit 96mph to take it!

I think it's certainly possible. It would be great to have the fastest and tallest non-launched coaster in the world. For now, anyway...

Thanks for bringing that back up. There has been so much discussion over the past 200 pages that who said what and when all runs together. I tried to dig something else up this morning that I know was posted and finally gave up.

To comment on an earlier post about this going from Centurion to fury to hornets, I think it's great. This is a discussion forum and everybody is having fun following the clues and arguably they have made sense with the clues.

For people wondering about the way the curved track looks and how it looks 'different' or like it's supposed to have something extra, Hollywood Dreams has the exact same type of curved track at the end of the ride.

To me that curved track looks like it will have sets of transport wheels on it, to bring the train around the curve. But normal physics and coaster design would say that this one will be like intimidator, which has no transports on it's curve into the station. But I am no Coaster designer.

But I also agree that there may be a transfer track. Cedar Fair may know that this coaster will bring in a LOT of crowds and they may be placing more trains on the track. But Sadly, I know this is not possible unless there is a mid-course brake run...

This thread has been really exciting and probably the most "colorful" of the threads on this forum maybe ever since Intimidator. I am really liking this :) .

They could do what they did with Banshee and just tack the MCBR at the beginning of the final break run. 3 train operation with no MCBR.

With that in mind, maybe the odd turn around track we're seeing will have breaks for another block right before the station?

Just as RollerBee said, no track or supports at the park as of yesterday, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything exciting going on!

First off, the giant bottom-of-the-lift footer is beginning to take shape.

As chknwing mentioned earlier this week, look at the box they have around the rebar so far, and compare it to the shape and angle of the one on Leviathian.

So the base of our lift will look something like this...

And just for all the (still) doubters, here's what the Intimin lift base footer from Intimidator 305 looks like.

Ok now back to our construction.

The one thing that is kind of blowing my mind with all this is where the heck is the transfer track going to go?

As you can see in this picture, there are a ton of footers off to the side of where the lift is going to start. Has B&M ever had transfer track right before the lift instead of on the brake run?

Its hard to tell really but does it appear that the triangular cement base piece looks like it is angled back a bit farther than Leviathan's? That would mean ours has a steeper lift! Someone needs to get a side shot somehow, but that would require trespassing
