General Carowinds discussion

Since we've all heard that California's Great America is supposed to be getting a floorless conversion next year (according to a news article that explicitly states another Rougarou "is coming to a park near San Francisco"'), that would mean Carowinds is all but assured to get one too. Maybe not necessarily next season (but could that be the roll, and water park expansion be the splash?).

We were told that it wouldn't be converted because it's historic as one of the first B&M's ever built.
Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Vortex at CGA the first? If so that's a serious plot hole in this whole "Vortex won't be converted" story. Also, didn't they specifically say they were looking at TWO rides to upgrade after Mantis? Well, do the math! Literally.

Personally, I think our Vortex is too short to really benefit from a floorless conversion, but it's also pretty uncomfortable as it stands now. So, for me, there's really no horse in this race. And honestly, of all the crazy rumors about 2016, a log flume is what I'd be most excited for... just felt like throwing out my two cents on this topic. :)

FYI, It was the 2nd B&M. The first was Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America, but it closed in 2011 and moved to Six Flags America as Apocalypse in 2012.

The Iron Wolf station was converted in 2014 and now houses Goliath. There's a conversion I could get behind!

I love Firehawk at Kings Island. I think it is quite smooth. I thought it gave a very enjoyable riding experience. I thought Superman: UF at Six Flags Great America was awful.

^THIS! Call me crazy, but if we polled coaster enthusiasts, I'm pretty sure Nighthawk would be voted worst flying coaster in the world. Think about: The worst flyer has to be one of Vekoma's Flying Dutchman and Nighthawk is the (incomplete) prototype of the model.

It would be pretty low on the list, but not at the bottom.

Oddly enough the one at Coney Island isn't *that* terrible, but the one at Rye Playland was one of the most ungodly torture devices I've ever experienced.

I find it amazing how many post I have read tonight on the traffic leaving the park. Even with all of the notice the park gave, people still talk bad about them. And to top it off, 1 1/2 hour after closing the parking lot is empty...

To be fair though the traffic was reeaally bad. Something Carowinds definitely needs to work on is their exits, because they are all really bad when there is any sort of crowd there. And the stretch between when you make the left out of the park to having to make an right exit onto the interstate is just a nightmare. (Something like a dutch turbo roundabout could help with the intersection I think.)

I made a time-lapse of the main parking lots traffic jam from about 10:15pm to 1:00am and sped it up to take four minutes. I also got some from the traffic on the lift hill cam as well, note that they overlap and this one goes from 11:50 to 1:00am, its at the end of the video.
