General Carowinds discussion

It is a good point about the flat rides. Relative to the size park that it is, I feel Carowinds is coaster heavy. I mean, I love coasters more than anything and I am not complaining but the park is a bit weak on the flat ride side relative to the number of coasters. As I have mentioned many times before, I am a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to amusement parks. I would love to see more of the big time, high thrill, high dollar flats as well as classics like our Gliders, Dodge Em's and the Scrambler which all should never be removed as far as I am concerned. I love rides as basic as the Tilt-A-Whirl. Getting a Bayern Curve and an Oaken Bucket back would be great.

Everybody is saying that we will have to wait another year for something big! Then again, millennium force was built in 2000, followed by top thrill dragster being unveiled in 2003. I'm not saying that we are getting something big next season but I thing that we should all definitely keep our minds open :?

Don't get your hopes up guys for something big next year. However I don't think you will have to wait too much longer for something big to be arriving at Carowinds.

I'm tired of these constant comparisons to Cedar Point. How many coasters did the so called "roller coaster capital" get from 2004-2012, a span of 8 years.

One.

There is having an open mind, and then there is having a completely unrealistic mind.

CAROWINDS IS NOT PUTTING ANYTHING IN OF SIGNIFICANT SIZE NEXT YEAR.

Now there are a ton of things that *aren't* a large coaster for the park to add, so just because it isn't, is no reason to be upset. Lots of good things come in small(er) packages.

Agree totally about nothing big coming next year. Too late in the season and no construction. Not gonna happen. I feel great about 2014 or 2015 being our next big one. Not that I am saying we have a shot at any of the following for next year but the previous response did get me thinking a few smaller coasters that would not be bad at some point in the future. Remember, it does not always have to be about the tallest, fastest and longest. We have all ages to think about.
1. Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter.
2. Intamin Mega Lite.
3. Mack YoungSTAR Coaster.
4. A Maurer Söhne creation.
5. Mack Rides or Intamin Bobsled coaster (Not gonna happen but I would love it myself. Would be happy to have CP's Disaster Transport)
6. Premier Rides creation similar to Superman at SFDK
This are just a few that come to mind.

Now that I'm making it around to more and more parks, I completely understand where you are coming from, JamminJ. It was never so apparent to me until after I was at Kennywood this past Sunday. It seemed everywhere we turned, there was another good flat ride, and on top of that they had six really good coasters. For its size, Idlewild also had a nice selection of flats.

I rode maXair at CP last year which reminded me that my body can't handle that anymore. I was smart enough to not try Black Widow. I do think that it would be a perfect fit in the field in front of Intimidator and a popular ride for the park.

I rode Swing Shot and wish we had one of those, also.

I do love S&S Screamin' Swings, I rode my first at Dollywood last year, what a ride!

I have to agree with some of you... Carowinds needs a good scary dark ride. I tried the Boo Blaster and it was just ok.
They need a good dark ride for older kids and adults.

^why does the park need a floorless? If anything it needs anything with a JOJO roll...floorless, inverted, anything!

Lol...you said nothing big will come next year. How long did it take them to build windseeker, the biggest ride in the park? And with a park like carowinds, with a relative flat layout, ground prep would be very quick.

Windseeker is the tallest ride in the park that a rider can reach, certainly not the biggest. I was referring to something along the lines of a major coaster or a major ride that has a large ground area work that needs to be done such a the rapids or the flume. I would love to be wrong in saying we are not getting something big. I just don't see it.
