General Carowinds discussion

On that note, that track is probably part of a brake run/transfer track or something that would expose its ends. Also, this track kinda matches flyer track (as discussed before).

EDIT: The left track piece might be the storage track while the piece to the right might be part of the brake run (which makes sense given the height differences).

Very good observation! I hadn't thought about that aspect of it before.

Furion wrote:So I guess that's further proof the plain teal track isn't ours.

I'll agree with this because there is no place track like this is used on anything other than a flyer. The storage areas (sometimes used for maintenance) don't have track in them so it wouldn't be there. The transfer track isn't this deep as well.

No.

swampfox43 wrote:The gray could just be the primer. They didn't paint Top Gun's supports until they arrived at the park as seen in this photo I took in 1998.

Another excellent point. But - I not sure why Top Gun's supports were primer colored and then painted here. I've never seen another park do that. I wonder if that primer was actually a gray paint color and the park changed their mind after delivery (or after it was too late to change them in the shop) and hand painted them to blue? If they were indeed primed for painting later on, Clermont hasn't done this since then have they?

I think the teal/yellow track with dark gray supports wouldn't look bad, but someone would have to photoshop one for me to get an idea, lol.

LyonsRonnie1 wrote:Can anybody tell if the different colors pieces are constructed differently enough that it can't possibly be for the same track?

They are separate coasters.

I could see this happening, but I think swampfox is right. It may just be primer. We know how Cedar Fair loves bright colors.

That doesn't look half bad (color wise, lol). I think the gray supports make the track pop. Now that I see this, the track colors remind me of a snake like animal. Like an eel or Loch Ness monster creature.

It looks like they have not begun shipping the mystery teal coaster and there are still Holiday World pieces on site. With that said, I don't expect to see much of the Carowinds coaster on the yard finished until all of Holiday World is out and much of the teal coaster is gone also. Judging from what we seen so far this year at the plant; as the yellow began to exit, the white showed up, and as the white left, the red populated the grounds. Now we are seeing the end of the red but the yard is filled with finished teal. With those shipping container in place and the two dark teal/yellow pieces in place. It look like the teal is about to make an exit and the teal/yellow will began to fill the yard.
The Carowinds coaster is likely in full production and the pieces are being placed out to rust, which I think takes about 30 days. I think folks looking for track pieces to arrive in Charlotte over the next few days are going to have to wait awhile longer until more pieces are finished.

As long as the paint mixture colors are coded, i.e. the colors mixed to make that color, then more paint can be mixed at any time to paint more pieces of track. Computer simulations are nice but as a owner I would want to see the paint scheme on the actual track. I bet their are some close up pictures of those pieces at Cedar Fair corporate. Maybe even pictures of a mock-up with a painted support piece attached, blue support maybe? They do mock-ups of the exterior of commercial buildings for owners all the time. So you paint a few pieces, get approval on the colors, set them in the yard until the other parts are ready for paint and then mass produce.

Based on previous discussions, the track that is sitting there painted appears to be for the station area. As someone pointed out to me, they usually put the track in place and then build the station around it. I am assuming that the painted track has been completed first because it is the first track that will be sent here. That way they can start on the station while the rest of the footers are being poured and while the plant makes the rest of the track.

If I recall correctly, the track and station area for Banshee started at least a few weeks before the big cranes came in and they started erecting the rest of the track.

I am guessing based on that, the track won't start to show up here until next week after the park is closed and will be here for the announcement.

Dom497 wrote:^Haven't we already established that those pieces are for the station/brake run? We're just trying to figure out why the spine is lowered on a curved piece of track...

Correct. I was reminding people that who were trying to figure out why there were only a few pieces of this track painted. That's because it will be installed in the station area which is what goes up first, hence why it's painted already before the rest of the track has started coming out of production.

LyonsRonnie1 wrote:New question: after the park closes, is any of that area accessible for pictures? Or are we going to be so far away that we can't even get any updates?

No. In order to access that area closely enough to get pictures then you would be trespassing. Or you need a helicopter.
