There are three road/walkways under Thunder Road. One by the new wave pool, one under the lift and one under the camelback behind Pipeline Peak.

Thanks for the pics of the tunnels under TR. I never took notice of them when I've been there before.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site. I'm CanobieFan, and my local park is Canobie Lake Park in Salem NH which is roughly 50 minutes away from me. I read on screamscape about the possible removal of the Thunder Road rollercoaster, and decided to join to give my 2 cents.

I've never been to Carowinds, and I've only been to one Cedar Fair park. That's Dorney. Even though it's known as the weaker park in Cedar Fair's chain of parks, I had a blast and thought it was loads better then Six Flags. I love the way Cedar Fair does business, it's very efficient.

For a while, Six Flags has been demolishing wooden coasters, and honestly, it ticks me off. I am a very strong opinionated person on preserving classic rides for future generations. Rare for a teenager, I know, but something about a classic, rickety wooden rollercoaster brings quite the thrill and adds to the fun.

Six Flags closed one of my all time favorite rides, the Cyclone, in Six Flags New England. While Wicked Cyclone looks great, nothing will compare to the classic, rickety feel of the Cobb creation. I don't know if you've ridden the SFNE Cyclone, but in the back seat, the first drop literally threw you out of your seat. The airtime was extreme, and I got bruised. Probably the best airtime you could ask for, you thought you were gonna pass out.

When they demolished the ride, I haven't gone back since July 20. Needless to say, I'm not one for demolishing classics.

I hear they just put tons of work into Thunder Road, and I'd be absolutely furious to see them take the cheap way out and demolish a classic for a waterpark expansion. I can find a water slide anywhere, but I can't find a racing coaster around every corner, especially one that crosses two states. I will get really pissed off if they decide to remove Thunder Road.

That being said, I do sadly see it likely they'll take the cheap route and there could be a waterpark expansion there. Sadly waterparks are becoming a big thing nowadays.

All in all, next year I see a Thunder Road demolition and an updated water park attraction.

Sorry for my rant, and GO FURY 325!!!

 Hi newbie!

I don't think that thunder road will be demolished. Especially, on it's 40th anniversary.

Isn't Thunder Road a replica of Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion? And they haven't torn it down have they?

Replica kinda, Thunder Road is the largest of the three racing coasters.

The only way I could see ANYTHING happening to Thunder Road is if they were going to use Carowinds as a testing ground park, similar to how they have been treating Canada's Wonderland. Maybe they want to see what the public thinks of Carowinds' signature wooden coaster getting the RMC treatment? Or maybe just the same layout with steel topper track, new trains, and the return of the signage along the lift hill?

Of course this is all speculation. They're obviously trying to grow Carowinds, not take one step forward followed by another one back. I know the security of every coaster isn't a given, I just don't buy this rumor tbh.

This is a new south and we are trying to move forward and let go of the past! In order to be the cedar point of the south, there has to be changes made to the park obviously. It began with the removal of the plantation house which was a vision of the old south....besides, who wants to be reminded of those times walking into an amusement park!? Moving forward is much better than living in the past or holding on to things that some people could find offensive.#make a change
