General Carowinds discussion

One of the great things about Carowinds is that we have the space! and a fairly lax regulatory/permitting environment. Something else has to go in the blue ridge junction area right? What’re there now just 2 rides? I think we get another flat there ride next year.

Since demolition has not started yet on RRR, I presume our only available land plot at the moment is the DA plot which is not too big. You could fit a GCI or a compact RMC, but maybe a Gerstlauer Infinity is also possible.

The reports I’ve read said we have about 100 acres of useable land to work with. That’s a lot of land. Maybe that includes changes to the parking lot that can be made if necessary? At any rate if we can’t expand on blue ridge the RRR plot is huge, and DA is fairly sizeable as well. Our land situation is better than most parks, look at cedar point they legit have no where to build. What happens with those 2 spots in going to be the story moving forward.

for a water park expansion? It could happen, yeah, but for a new flat ride or coaster? I don't think Carowinds would go there. I doubt they'd pull a Kentucky Flyer and put it right along the perimeter of the water park. Why? For the manufacturers Cedar Fair likes to work with, none of them could make a coaster (or flat ride) that would blend in with the water park setting. KK only did that because they didn't have any other plot to build upon. Carowinds, however, does have the land that can be used for further development, that can be used for another mid or high-tier coaster.

With a reconfigured parking lot, DA has a lot of land available. Remember, they took some of the parking lot for Intimidator. They can do the same for what they end up putting in DA. For that matter, re-do the South Gate area completely and you'd have a lot of real estate to work with.

For 2020, I'd like to see them continue progress from Blue Ridge into Crossroads and make that area more enticing. Its been such an after-thought area for going on 40 years now.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that anymore.

Demolition isn’t gonna start on rip Roarin Rapids until the end of this season (if something will be happening next year to it) or sometime next year and years after. It’s just sat there this season. There’s still a few boats left.

what are the odds they plan on replacing DA with another another kids/family attraction(s)? Pretty damn high right? That would mean the RRR land would be the most likely landing spot for another coaster, and that wouldn’t be until atleast what? 2021/22? And who knows what the economy will look like by then. We may be waiting a while.

Those odds may be high, but dont require the new attraction being located the same place as DA. Expand the DA plot into the parking lot to accommodate something bigger, and use the RRR site for the new family attraction.

In fact, with the carousal over there, RRR would be a nice location for a whole-family attraction.

What if we get nothing? 2020 could just be a general improvement of the park. Like this year some Cedar Fair parks did not get any rides just regular enhancements.

For me, that would be as welcomed as a new attraction. I think I have said it before but I would rather see the front gate complete with the removal/re-skinning of the gift shop and cinnabon building along with the rest of the pre-dated buildings up there. More shade structures like they have done in Blue Ridge Junction would be a welcomed addition up there.

^THIS.

I’d love to see them finish the plaza and make it fit with the Carolina theme. Hopefully they will when they do whatever they do to the rapids plot.

And then they need to update the South Gate.
