Personally I don’t think the park cares about people walking around with wet clothes and clearly people don’t either if they’ll wait in line for it. That’s not the problem. The problem is simply maintenance.

I don't think the problem is maintenance...it is an extremely simple ride. The problem is the amount of employees needed to run the ride (at least 11)

Rapids rides are not ‘extremely simple rides’. Parks don’t get rid of rides because they don’t ‘have enough staff’, they can hire a couple extra people and staff the ride. Parks get rid of rides when the maintenance becomes to expensive in relation to ridership. Even popular rides can get too expensive to maintain.

If it were a case of “we need more employees”, they’d hire more employees. Not spend way more money to eventually demolish a ride.

... yeah it's a simple ride. It's basically a water slide, all you need is pumps to bring water up aaand that's it. It's being removed because 1) stupid low capacity 2) water park exists 3) stupid low capacity 4) wheres the woodsy ground-up rmc supposed to go?

In case I inadvertently did so, I didnt mean to imply they should get rid of water rides just for the sake of getting rid of them. Maintenance expenses or (lack of) popularity are about the only reasons any ride should be removed once installed. I'm only referring to new investment; if constructing a new water ride, it should be associated with the water park. The waterpark is just as convenient for 2/3 of the "dry" park as the RRR location is anyways, it's not like having to leave and enter a whole new park just to get a little splash.

And obviously, if you dont have a water park, it cant be located in the water park. So that's a completely different scenario.

No. It’s not basically a water slide. It has several high maintenance pumps, filtration systems, trough maintenance. Raft maintenance. Conveyor belt maintenance.

Rapids rides are not cheap to maintain and that gets worse over time.

And I’d love to see the people that make decisions see a comment like “new water rides should be constructed in the water park”.

Yeah. Ok. Where are your experience and numbers to back that up?

Hey, we agree on something :)

Water is one of the most difficult and expensive materials to work with. I think even the so-called "simplicity" of an actual waterslide would be surprising to some.

Even though the park has a water park doesn't mean they shouldn't have water attractions. Water parks aren't everyone's thing and no one should be restricted to just having the water park as an option. Water park attractions and water rides are not the same. One is designed for you to be half naked to experience and one requires you to be fully clothed. I know we live in a new era where everyone HAS to have their phone or some device on them so they feel less incline to get get soaked on a ride but that's a personal problem. It's a theme park, UNPLUG!

But my personal opinion is these parks aren't ripping these rides out just for the heck of it, a lot of these rides are older than us and in some cases, our parents. Nothing works for ever nor are they designed to. The park folks are in the business of making more and spending less and if it cost more to run a ride than to tear it down and replace it with something that will one, boost attendance (because that's the bottom line with parks) and generate revenue in the parks, then so long old water ride.

We would be crazy to think the park doesn't have a water ride/attraction in the pipeline .

This.

And just so this isn't a white noise post, the other thing to consider is that RRR occupied an awful lot of prime real estate for an attraction with such a low capacity and limited operating season.

^The park can afford to give away the gate to an extent. Parks really thrive off in park spending on food, games and other in park spending.

No, it really shouldn't. Water slides and pools should be in a water park. A mechanical ride should not. Most actual water rides require shoes and for you to be fully clothed. A large percent of people who like water rides do not care to go to a water park. A water park is essentially open from memorial day to labor day. Carolina Harbor paths aren't designed to hold the same foot traffic as the regular park so why would you want more people going in an out to ride a water ride?

All Cedar Fair parks have these similar discounts for years, they just don't hype them like Six Flags which sends out a constant newsletters promoting them. You have to actually look for the deals for Cedar Fair on the website or follow their social media. Also, there are no free days which are extra hyped by SF and are known days to avoid, unless your using the deal b/c it's going to be a zoo.

KI, KD,CGA have BoF 19.99 all the time. WOF, VF, like Carowinds have it on weekdays and increase it to 36 to 40 on weekends. CP and MIA have 29.99, all the time KB $48.

Extraneous Note: Cedar Point( is not doing auto renewal for passes for 2020. Did Carowinds send out a similar email? I would assume no auto renewal would be an across the chain policy.
