OK, so I walked through the water park last Sunday and realized the last time I was in that section was when we had our behind the scenes tour with Max. This was when they added that little kiddie area where the Pirate ship was. Geesh, that was a long time ago. It reminded me why I don't visit our water park and why our water park needs help in a big way.
What came to my mind as we walked around was how unorganized that section really is. Paths going all over the place, dead end walkways, a couple hard to see entrances to attractions, "splash" or kid zones spattered about like measles, and tons of wasted space. It looks like you took 10 different puzzles and pieced it together leaving out the pieces that didn't fit. When I look at the slides they are not appealing as the are faded in a bad way, the lazy river well I just laughed. The water park is old, worn out and showing its age. I just don't see how people out of their teens enjoy it. Nothing there looks fun enough to wait in those lines.
Personally I have no clue what Carowinds is going to do for next year but it will have to be pretty awesome to get me back in that section to enjoy. Hmm, a water coaster, slide configurations that aren't cookie cutter, some tall and fast slides.
If it were me I would tear down every thing that could be saved and store it for now. Then, with the exception of the newest wave pool and cabanas, I would bulldoze the entire area and start over. I would close off the entire parking area by the South gate, reshape / resize the land between Carowinds Blvd. and that parking area to reflect the distance Thunder Roads turn around had in relation to Carowinds Blvd to maximize space. Then, not only can you lay out a new and more pleasant water park but then you could also have expansion room behind Action Theater.
