Nothing happen to it. It is all a direct correlation to the announcement. With that picture you had to look not so much as to who was in it but more so what was in it...a carolina beach.

I believe the Wright Bros. reference suggests a Carolina coast type of attraction, not some flying swing ride or winged rollercoaster. What we will probably see is a big overhaul and expansion of the waterpark, as predicted, with perhaps some sort of huge waterslide as a "big splash." Themed to a Carolina beach. Although it would indeed be nice to see a big new log flume or watercoaster, but that may be a few years.

And eventually they should replace Thunder Road with another big coaster, but that will probably be in 4 or 5 years.

I don't really think the Wright Bros. refers to a flying coaster of some sort, but it should be noted that both Manta and Shiekra in Florida both have splashdown features. Something to think about, but probably just a nice waterpark expansion is what we'll see next year.

So I neglected to bring this up, but this permit was found on Accela:
It was filed about a month ago. What commercial building could they be talking about? The warehouse behind Thunder Road? Is it even for guest parking or is it for the employees? I just think this points to Carolina Harbor getting its own dedicated parking lot.

[EDIT] Never mind. Southlake Crossing appears to be Cedar Fair's satellite office up the road.

I was wondering if the park moved!

Hey!!! Wouldn't it be cool the travel channel came back next year and film one of their Xtreme water park segments at Carowinds? It would be like DOUBLE...size exposure of Carowinds with the episode of Epic attractions still being fresh in peoples' minds this time next year...just a thought.

This was when they added that little kiddie area where the Pirate ship was. Geesh, that was a long time ago. It reminded me why I don't visit our water park and why our water park needs help in a big way.

What came to my mind as we walked around was how unorganized that section really is. Paths going all over the place, dead end walkways, a couple hard to see entrances to attractions, "splash" or kid zones spattered about like measles, and tons of wasted space. It looks like you took 10 different puzzles and pieced it together leaving out the pieces that didn't fit. When I look at the slides they are not appealing as the are faded in a bad way, the lazy river well I just laughed. The water park is old, worn out and showing its age. I just don't see how people out of their teens enjoy it. Nothing there looks fun enough to wait in those lines.

Personally I have no clue what Carowinds is going to do for next year but it will have to be pretty awesome to get me back in that section to enjoy. Hmm, a water coaster, slide configurations that aren't cookie cutter, some tall and fast slides.

If it were me I would tear down every thing that could be saved and store it for now. Then, with the exception of the newest wave pool and cabanas, I would bulldoze the entire area and start over. I would close off the entire parking area by the South gate, reshape / resize the land between Carowinds Blvd. and that parking area to reflect the distance Thunder Roads turn around had in relation to Carowinds Blvd to maximize space. Then, not only can you lay out a new and more pleasant water park but then you could also have expansion room behind Action Theater.

Agree with a lot of this.

I went back there earlier this season and rode everything. The scariest experience for me was the Pipline Peak. Son and I rode on the black and purple top slides. And the whole climb up there the place was literally shaking and flexing like it could collapse at any minute. The whole thing just feels and looks old. The pipes all had rust all over them, the slides are faded and look sunworn . It is a nightmare.

I was also getting burnt on every single concrete step because it was 100 degrees out that day and none of the walk path is covered and you're not permitted to bring shoes/sandals on that ride.

All in all I would like to see most of the water park demolished. The wave pools are also in need of work. Full of nasty stuff. I will not repeat on here what I have seen in the water in those wave pools..  Gross.
