General Carowinds discussion

Lmao....I thought you were the biggest a**hole of all time until I met you Edwardo. I was totally wrong about that, same with Coasterbruh ....lol...anyhow....I feel that if we're going to be the thrill capitol of the south, changes have to be made. Sometimes old has to be replaced with new.? For example...you drive a car for ten years and eventually you're going to want a new car or need one. I for one don't mind seeing older rides go for newer and better ones. For all we know the big splash comment could be referring to a new state of the art water ride.!? County fair is on the up and up and will be given much love in the years to come! All things must surcom to their demise eventually....

Funny - coasterbruh and I got into it on here but we 'hugged it out too' and are now friends. Based on the picture, I feel like I've met barbwire before but I'm not sure where. Anyway, based on a few comments like this I hope people don't take things so personally.

As far as TR goes, I think it would be a waste of money to do the RMC 'iron' treatment on it. It's a standard out-and-back racing woody that is not interesting enough to convert it. It could, however, benefit from RMC topper track which would smooth it out more without losing the wood character and should make it easier to maintain.

That's a very good point. Not only is it in bad taste to post it, doing so can almost ensure that park officials will be even more tight lipped in the future. That's also why I don't like when full videos are posted from events. First of all, some of that information shouldn't be shared publicly - parks will announce it when they are ready. Secondly, if someone wants to know 100% of what was shared, they should have attended the event (and taken time off like I have to do) or be considered someone a park wants to share info with and be given an invite. My $.02.

QFT

I think often times, and many of us on here have had this discussion in person, people think that me and Jarvis are being rude for rudeness sake, when that's not really the case. I'll be the first to admit that often times when I'm meeting someone in person for the first time (and I'm known for this, and people joke about it), I shake hands and immediately ask "Have we argued online?"

But here's the thing, just because people argue with you doesn't equate it to being a negative. Just because someone has a difference of opinion, often times (especially without context of pitch of voice and body language on the internet, with the addition of anonymity of being behind a screen), people get offended at someone disagreeing with them and making an argument. Just because I argue or disagree, that doesn't mean I'm insulting you.

How much of Thunder Road still needs retracking? Is it all after the turnaround? I would personally like to see it get the topper track and new trains. And a new paint job, but that's not gonna happen.

As for a ride idea, I would like to see a new type of water ride never seen before, or even a water coaster, and some new paint on those slides.

I'm almost positive that the 2016 decision is heavily based on Fury 325. Not if its a success or not because we all know it is but more so how it effects the dynamics of the park. What I mean by that is, are more families coming? If you have more thrill seekers dragging their entire families, maybe that is driving more traffic to planet snoopy which in turn would lead to needing more family attractions there. Are people coming more at particular times and days? We see they have extended the schedule and it seems people are loving that! I see more of us incline to visit after work knowing we have at least 4 more hours to enjoy the park.

Does the park do surveys on-site and via internet? I can see them doing it more so via internet to people purchasing one day tickets after their visit vs in the park. Asking questions like would they consider purchasing a season pass, why they chose carowinds, what did they like most/least about their visit, how likely are they to return? In the park, questions like how long have they been in the park so far, what are their highlights so far...issues...and so on. I think guest services is great but they generally get the negative experiences reported than anything...anyway i'm blabbing, back to 2016 ideas...

The entire ride was completely retracked over a five year period that just ended in 2013. The only part of the ride that needs a little track work is the last hounded feet or so in both sides. I believe that was part of the first sections to be retracked, so it's been a good 6 years since that was done.

There would be no need for it to get topper track, it's an out and back ride that isn't really twisty or aggressive. Topper track works in rides like Timbers or GA Cyclone because they're more aggressive rides that need more constant maintenance in spots and even then they only put topper on the parts that need then.

As for trains, they're not going to invest in new trains for that ride. Trains are expensive and PTCs are very good trains to run in an out and back.

All I can say is that the last 2 or 3 bunny hills on TR are BAD. They are so bad that it HURTS. After riding TR on opening weekend, I vowed not to ride it again until they at least put some attention to that area. (My daughter agreed with me.) Otherwise, it's one of my favorite rides. So, if they keep it, lets do some work on it so it can be an attraction and not a place to go to get an awful headache. TR used to be so much better than GASM at SFoG but I fear this is by far no longer the case. I vote to keep it.... and I vote to fix it.... and bring back the tunnels.

Well said and I couldn't agree more!...Could we see a great flume ride return in 2016.!? No hashtag 2009revisted. I think that we may be in for a few surprises in 2016 and I'm already gearing up for announcement day!

Agreed, the last third of the ride is brutal.

Maybe it's deep-seeded childhood fears, but to me, the turnaround on Thunder Road is still one of the most terrifying experiences at Carowinds. I always feel like we're just going to fly right off the track. Every time. For 30 years.
