I agree.

Plus I like having it so close to the helix for Top Gun. It creates this optical illusion that it looks like the boat will hit Top Gun.

Does anyone have pictures of it in its new location?

They spruced them up and sent them to PGA. We got their 'spruced' up flying coaster.. all works out I suppose.

I heard that the transformer and switchgear on the Southern Star blew all to hell today. Supposedly it was a pretty bad explosion and from what I was told, could've killed someone had they been standing nearby. :o

So, to all those hoping for a ride this Easter weekend........well, it may not be operating.

I'm glad noone was hurt.

I wonder if the board was just bad from sitting around or whatever. I know it seems unlikely, but I've never heard of this happening.

What!? I JUST got done riding the Southern Star around 6:15. It was still running at that time. And I was in the park till close and didn't notice any commotion.

Wear did you hear that from?

The transformer did "pop" and as with any transformer when it overloads there will be smoke lol. The incident happened when the park was closed and there was work being done on the ride. There were no associates aroung the transfomer and Duke Power repaired (*replaced) the transformer.

Well I finally got to ride SS last Saturday and have to say I was very impressed.

The ride is running (when it's running) very smooth, quieter than ever and the restraints don't mash you to death anymore when locking/releasing.

Kudos to the rides department!

I was never a big fan of the ride before, but I'll probably be stopping by to ride it more often now. Plus Saturday there were no lines at all in the a.m. I think it broke down later in the day though, but I was only out there till about Noon.

There was actually a FULL QUEUE yesterday for Southern Star! There hasn't been a full queue for that ride in like 10 years!!!

Of course the queue is a lot shorter than the old version, but still.

I rode it before the back part of the park got busy (thanks Carowinds for opening the South Gate on Saturdays!). Fox Charlotte was out there filming the ride and riders reactions.

I'm still shocked that I like the ride now. It's a much better ride than before IMO, mostly because the restraints aren't so bad on locking/releasing.
