I think that *when* they build a resort, the best place for it is at the back of the park with the campground. That would allow the two to share some of the same facilities and also help address some of the improvements that the campground could use. The most notable improvement would be a resort gate at the back of the park that is easy walking distance from the campground.

I know I havent been on here in a long time and this is really exciting. As to the use of the land we will have to see. To be honest with that land already being somewhat cleared it def won't be much to start making use of it. I agree it wont happen over night but I would expect to see the earliest signs of its actual use to the public for 2013 along with the 40th Anniversary. They took one off year and what I predict will be another somewhat off year on the major capital investment. I honestly see that property being used for obviously, yes like everyone else, a resort hotel, but let's be honest it won't take up the whole 61 acres but if you were to take the campground and "move it" to a new location right next to your signature resort hotel it would look extremely "glamorous". This would also help with revenue considering the current campground is small and hidden and moving it to a more proper and efficient location would make better use of the land. I would expect some sort of restructuring of the current drive and parking lot system to also take place. However, and I maybe zealous in saying this, I could definitely see some sort of new operational command center/business office in the works to go next to the Paladium (kinda like it was origninally) OR in your vacant parking area next to TR. If that were to happen a new Maintenance building would not surprise me either. By doing so you completely clear the back of the park for a way more efficient use of the land and making every dollar count.

But again....these are just thoughts

An interesting thought, however I think they would just keep maintenance where it is and expand into the parking lot. That just seems like an easier and cheaper way of expanding the park. But your idea is not out of the question.

Heh. I got taken to a Famous Dave's in Minnesota when up there on a business trip, since the guys up there had heard we were big on barbecue in the South. And it was pretty good, for non-NC barbecue. There was...chicken... on my plate. And beef. It was tasty, but that stuff is NOT 'cue.

BBQ is made from a whole pork shoulder slow cooked over a pit...I live in the self-proclaimed BBQ capital of world so I know where the good bbq is.

Very interesting article. Can't wait to see what his plans for our park for the future are.

What is with this parking garage stuff that has been all over this board for the last several years? It blows my mind. It would be an eyesore, it's completely unnecessary with the amount of space the park already has, and furthermore, at an average of around $20,000 per space, a 1,000 space parking garage would cost $20 million. I know where I would prefer the park spend $20 million, and it's not on a parking garage.

I would just like to point out.....that possibility HAS been talked about on a low murmur from past Charlotte officials over the last few years. Whether or not it is implemented into the 2030 plan has yet to be seen.
