General Carowinds discussion

Edwardo wrote:And really what is a grand in the grand scheme of things to Carowinds? How many packs of cigarettes is that?

Heck, I spent at least that on my last weekend trip.

Depends on which brand of cigarettes and where you are buying them. I would estimate between 190 and 210 packs.

I think that once everyone realizes that this is for the better of the park, there won't be that much of a backlash. Even after all of the comments and the hate happening at the moment.
I don't know what they have planned. My only goal was to find out if it was just a marketing scheme or not. I want to be surprised just like everyone else.. or is that just me?

I have gotten to the acceptance level now but it just seems to me that they could easily keep Thunder Road and still expand the water park.

What if... Carowinds built a steel version of Thunder Road? It could have the same profile, maybe even be a racing coaster, and should have a lot less maintenance problems. I know the cost would be extraordinary but I can dream, right? The steel construction, such as that of B&M, could accomodate all sorts of rides and attractions to pass underneath it. The ride experience would essentially be that of a smooth Thunder Road.

I know, a pipe dream. The day I first read about Thunder Road's removal I pondered, what if Carowinds was closing part of the water park to expand Thunder Road? :)

But there is no question of the popularity to the general public of the water park, so I understand the need for its expansion.

Dumb move on their part to tear this ride down.

Not many coasters in the park for younger kids to enjoy that still give air time in the 48 inches class.

[s]SlingShot[/s]
[s]Carolina Cobra[/s]
[s]Carolina Goldrusher[/s]
Carolina Cyclone
[s]Hurler[/s]
Thunder Road
[s]Rip Cord (pay attraction)[/s]

Out of all these Thunder Road is exclusively the only ride with plenty of airtime for kids to enjoy.

Cyclone is another "Thrills ride" For the younger kids but it really beats you to death. Especially near the back trains. I wouldn't re-ride this one, and children may feel beat up afterwards.

The others? Goldrusher and hurler are in my opinion kiddie rides and the Cobra is basically a gimmick with no thrill value.

Shame shame shame. My family enjoy and love this ride. It really is good clean fun.

I do think that Carowinds will be missing that "middle ground" coaster (Carolina Cyclone was mine, but no one cares about my opinion), but I'm trying to hold my judgement until next month. Hopefully we get a proslide water coaster out of the expansion. I here they have loads of airtime.

No. You have those who don't want it gone (I'm kinda one) then you have those extremist, like roller who are cursing the park to damnation, vowing never to return to the park, staging protest and commenting on every post cafowinds makes with #SaveThunderRoad. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be lumped in that group...
