General Carowinds discussion

I didn't happen to notice the other chainsaws. They must have not made enough noise to catch my attention.

Since this is a wishlist thread I should stay on topic.

While we're not big horror fans we have enjoyed Scarowinds the last couple of years. It's really good for what you pay for. I would like to see another maze added that is an upcharge maze. Something along the line of alone that was at Busch Gardens previously where you are sent into the maze one at a time. I'd pay an extra $5 or $10 for that.

I live in Monroe, too.

- There seemed to be a shortage of 'actors' this year. A good number of the mazes appeared short-staffed.
- A few of maze props need some maintenance
- Thank you for the addition to Fury - it was appreciated in a formerly desolate area
- Please bring back chainsaws.

As always we had a good time. Like most who went this past weekend, I'll be back a time or two before the season winds down.
To clarify it even more, please bring back REAL chainsaws! Those electronic ones look and sound fake.

Real chainsaws would be too dangerous, if guests were to accidently bump into them.

Thanks for posting that video, i've been trying to figure out to take the chain off a chainsaw for a little while now, the only way a chainsaw with no chain could hurt someone is if it has pointy edges or the actor is swinging it around

If it's all about safety, the pitchfork guy could hurt someone easier than someone with a chain-removed chainsaw. I didn't feel unsafe with him around, I am just saying...

I went on opening night... It was not horrible.... The only mazes I didnt do were silver scream and camp killauee. The one thing I think they need is MORE FOG... in certain areas the fog was heavy, like at the entrance but there are many many dead areas with no fog at all... I know the entire park cannot be engulfed in fog, but fog just adds a lot to the haunted theme. I would also like to see the actual rides get some sort of themeing, I mean at least play some halloween theme music. I also agree it seemed short staffed, but I guess that because it was opening night and a Friday. They still need to add more theming and things, oh and bring back Elvira in the theatre! Move Last Laff somewhere else...

Yea, I run a chainsaw at a haunted house every year. Once the chain has been removed, the most dangerous thing about the saw at that point is the hot exhaust....or maybe the fumes if you're in an enclosed space, which wouldn't be a problem at SCarowinds anyways.

September 14, 15, 21, and 22 for $19.99

September 28, October 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28 for $24.99

Your welcome.

Thanks for sharing this! I've never used the "bring a friend" thing but intend to do that this Friday. Can these be bought online ahead of time or only at the ticket booth?

I was there on 9/14 as well as 9/28. I could really see the improvement in the monsters over that two week period. There are always a few who don't know how to creep you out but for the most part I think they did a good job. I also appreciated the increased number of them by last Friday.

My biggest feedback is to have the people at the entrance of the attraction stop sending so many people through when the line isn't very long. I can see sending a steady throng through when the park is packed, but the two Fridays that I went weren't super busy and our longest wait was probably five minutes. They were still sometimes sending us through in groups of 10+ at some of the mazes instead of just a handful of people.

I would like to see more animatronics in the mazes. There were more in the past that are no longer functioning. We went to Campground Massacre on 9/29 and we were really impressed with their execution of both a haunted house and a haunted trail. They have a lot of functioning animatronics that really work and made it a great experience. When I get the blog post written about Campground Massacre, I'll post a link here.

Mazes

Asylum: 8.75/10
Last laugh: 8.75/10
Camp killauee: 6/10
Defex: 8/10
Fury: 5/10 (this maze just isn't doing it for me)
Silver scream sinema: 7.75/10
Cornstalkers: 8.5/10
Dead inn: 6/10

I'm noticing a re-occurrence of things that have made Scarowinds not as goood this year as it used to be.

1. IT'S COMPLETELY UNDERSTAFFED! There are l-o-n-g periods of space where there are NO actors what-so-ever in too many mazes. I'm not sure if I went to scarowinds on a bad night or something. But I went through feeding frenzy and only saw about 4 actors.... it was sad (guilty mazes: Camp K, Silver scream, dead inn, fury, cemetery, feeding frenzy, Massacres)

2. LACK OF ENERGY FROM ACTORS. A majority of the actors I encountered kind of just passed you, or just stood there with their heads down. I may understand that working a 5 hour event all weekend (and then possibly go to school during the week) is tiring, and I realize that I haven't partaken in working at scarowinds (marching band season is always my excuse). HOWEVER, at least you can get closer to the general public and be slightly more creepy. These actors are more nonexistent than creepy. One actress in the asylum walked by me and said "excuse me..."(guilty mazes: asylum, cornstalkers, dead inn, playground)

3. GUNS OVER CHAINSAWS. I know that there has been a lot of discussion about lack of chainsaws, but seriously? I saw exactly ONE chainsaw the whole night....and he was one of the actors who kinda just walked slowly and barely did anything with the saw. But HEY, guns? There's barely any weaponry other than guns at scarowinds and it's more violent than creepy....that's just a personal thing though. (guilty mazes: fury, asylum, cornstalkers)

4. CROWD MANAGEMENT. I understand that there are a TON of people at scarowinds all the time, but just letting the entire line go into a maze at once is absurd. (guilty mazes: Dead inn, cornstalkers, camp K, THE PARKING LOT)

I know I may sound a little harsh in this review, but it's just my honest opinion on the night I had at scarowinds. If they could only fix one thing next year, they need to find a way to get more people moving through that parking lot so that teenagers aren't walking a mile and a half just to find their parents.

I apologize for the long post....
