"Piedmont Region

The French word for “foothills”, the Piedmont region of North Carolina encompasses many of the state’s metropolitan areas including Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh and Durham. This area is an eclectic mix of business, NASCAR, Moravian history, science and technology, and world-class universities. "

Well based on that from the website it's the NC Piedmont. Does the park really care...nope...will the people who are more interested in eating care...nope. Looks like you are the only one who cares...

Probably so, just like the state banners that feature Hurler in the background whether it is for NC or SC.

Recent inclement weekend weather may have given this event a slow start, but hopefully it will pick up steam through May as I'd personally really like this to succeed. The Creamed Leeks and Butter Beans over Biscuit have been the best surprise so far.

Food tastings (and beer at each booth) are on the same ticket, but by mistake I instead purchased the separate intimate brew tasting. Since there wasn’t adequate signage to direct anyone back to the Rose Room for this (which hopefully got corrected), it was a happy accident that I privately had a laid-back 90 minute conversation with Bryan from Benford Brewing, who owns quite a unique agricultural brewery in Lancaster, SC. With a product offering like this, all of them outstanding, watch for this guy.

Maybe through the confusion he didn’t get as much exposure as he deserved last Sunday, but he was invited back to the park today:

Looking forward to visiting the cows. :) Good luck dude!

Those sound like some interesting beer and I can't wait to try them. Hopefully I'll run into him tomorrow.

I didn't really do a full "taste" today, but I finally tried the pulled-pork spring rolls! They were everything I hoped they would be! :D I just wonder why they weren't hot. I expected the rolls to be cooked and crunchy but they were still phenomenal the away they were!

I really hope that the Taste of the Carolinas takes off. I'm a big fan of Benford brewing, but haven't met Bryan before. His brewery is right around the corner from my house and I have been wanting to make a trek over there one Saturday as they do tastings in the afternoon. This really makes me want to make a visit.

Have anyone heard if this event is doing well? I'm sure would like it to return however every time I'm in the park there's no one tasting anything.

Did y'all know the carowinds cafe is now serving biscuits with sausage gravy in the mornings??

Speaking of beer, Kings Island just did this: http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/new ... ine/nk43y/

Amusement park visitors can now buy three beers brewed and branded specifically for Kings Island, said park spokesman Don Helbig.

Banshee Brew is available in the Festhaus; Diamondback Ale at the Reds Hall of Fame Grille, and Beast Bock at the LaRosa’s Pizza in Rivertown, Helbig said.

So what would you name special beer brewed for Carowinds?

Fury 325 Honey Lager
Afterburn Triple IPA
Nighthawk Midnight Stout
Carolina Cobra Cream Ale - "Smooth taste for a rough ride"

Well, if Taste of the Carolinas is unsuccessful, I'd love to see some of the foods being offered around the park as permanent menu items. I hope the event stays though as it's much more than just $4 samples. There's great entertainment and the park just had a southern feel to it.

I hit the park today and finally got to sample the TOTC offerings. My favorites were for the SC offerings....the cherry and fig smoothie and the crab soup.

The Beer Garden next to Wings had an IPA from Conquest in Columbia that I never heard of but it was quite good and a good substitute for Noda's Hop, Drop and Roll which they were not pouring. They did have NoDa's Jam Session Pale Ale though.

There were 2 tastings fo the Benford beers in the Rose room and I was able to take part in that. The oyster stout was my favorite there. The tasting included a pint glass to take home and sampling of their 5 beers for $12.

A few hypotheticals off the cuff. These are admittedly pretty awful.

Fury 325 or 6.4
Rip Roarin’ Rapid
Charlie Brown Ale
Skytower Happy Hour
Drop Zone High Gravity
Woodstock Glider Cider
Caro Three Sheets to the Winds

Anyone else?

Fury Honey Ale

I tried a few things on Sunday with Wormy and we saw a few people purchasing but not many. Most of the food that we tasted was good. (Thanks for the smoked Trout, Wormy! I might not have tried that on my own but it was tasty.)

We had one worker at the booths who was particularly good. I saw Shoofly pie on the menu for one of the areas which caught me by surprise since I was born in PA and am familiar with it as a classic Pennsylvania Dutch dessert. Craig knew the story when I asked and was very informative (Kudos!). I hadn't realized that Lancaster county in SC was actually formed by some Pennsylvania Dutch who moved there and brought it with them. It's true pronunciation matches that of Lancaster, PA (Lank-iss-ter - not Lan-kast-er). Good stuff that I never knew but now I do.
