General Carowinds discussion

I went on the ride in August, I remember a wheelchair area that was perfectly flat, It was level with the rest of the deck on one side and 4 inches above it on the other. I placed a water bottle on this area once and the water level was level to the little depressions running like rings around the bottle, therefore proving that this little section was flat and the rest of the deck was gently curved

If anyone has a picture of the boat, posting it would be greatly appreciated.

I know the Queen is not coming back and I was just trying to give everyone a possible explanation.

I'm pretty sure you are right about the sloped decks, Cephas. That wasn't the reason it was removed though. According to the park, the structural damage incurred when the boat was turned around was so severe the the cost of repairing it would have been even greater than the boat cost to be built in the first place.

Jon never ever again speak about my mistakes!

You dig that hole deeper everytime you post. You completely misread and misquoted my post.

Thanks for the pictures cz, if you look at the last picture, the back of the middle deck shows some of the curvature I was talking about. I might not be enough to make a glass fall over, but it still is there and might make eating a little uncomfortable.

Does anybody not think that if they did use the boat for a resturant, that they might actually fixed the floors, etc? I'm sure that there have been a lot of work to do to get it up to standards.

The more I think about it, I just don't see a resturant being on the boat (well, not anymore anyway...). There would have to be a good sized kitchen somewhere (unless it was off the boat and the food was carried onto the boat but that seems like a lot of trouble), there probably wouldn't much room for seating, and the costs for all this would probably be too much.

Come to think of it, I really don't see a gift shop either. You couldn't leave merchandise just out in the open. Walls would have to be built. That certainly would have changed the boat itself as far as structure goes. At best, if the boat had stayed in the park, it would have best served as a walkway to the island/coaster complex.

Its probably best that the boat is gone.

I wouldn't consider it "best".

There is a shop in between whitewater rapids and the skytower that has a garage door (almost as long as the wall) in two of the wallls. They open these up leaving a shop with practilly only two walls. I have heard from others that this shop is very easy to shoplift from (I've never done it, I don't like jail) but they keep it open. This shop proves that Carowinds could be willing to open a shop on the riverboat, even if it is easy to shoplift from.

Also, merchandise might be laying around in the open but there are only two narrow exits off the riverboat, if your not willing to swim. If they had a shop upstairs, there would only be two narrow stainrcases to guard for shoplifters. They could just install two of those things they have by the door at wall-mart that detect if your shoplifting, those would make a store on the top deck reasonable.

 Is this supposed to be a Ninja smily-face?

Yes, I know the boat is not coming back, I just thinking "what if".

I remember very little about Smurf Island. I think I walked over there one time and took a picture of one of my friends shaking hands with one of the blue colored denizens. I was hoping we'd see a dead on on the island during Scarowinds :)

Drop Zone has never been closed any season. It opened in 1996 and has run every season since then.
