General Carowinds discussion

Considering all the hype about it, I thought maybe we might want to do a little bit of last minute speculation before the official announcement!! :D

on the official website:
<a href='http://www.sixflags.com/parks/overgeorgia/ParkPress/GIANT.html' target='_blank'>http://www.sixflags.com/parks/overgeorgia/...ress/GIANT.html</a>

a ACE teaser:
<a href='http://members.acesoutheast.org/SFOG2006A.jpg' target='_blank'>http://members.acesoutheast.org/SFOG2006A.jpg</a>

Blueprints (not totally confirmed) have appeared all over the web, I think some are on <a href='http://www.screamscape.com' target='_blank'>http://www.screamscape.com</a>

I think we'll see a B&M around 200 with a 210 or 215 drop...

September 1st is the official announcement... 2 Days away!!!

imagine ERT on this monster... if its offered, COUNT me at the spring fling!

it looks to be the same color scheme as goliath/titan, and the pun hints seem to be leaning at similar themes.....

besides the negative vibes (and prob. tired ppl of hearing the news... :o )

the official press release did come out today.. and all i can say is...

It's over 200, 175 foot drop, incudes double helix, 6 camelbacks, NO MCBR!!!!, overbank turn, and is of course... going to be called GOLIATH....

It's B&M of course, and is shorter then most other SF hypers at 4400 feet....

all specs aside, it's going to be a sweet ride B)

I am going to play devils advocate here and be a little critical of Six Flags for not having at least a 200' drop on this coaster. I mean, why have a 200' ft "high" coaster, and then design it with a first drop that bottoms out 25' off the ground...

Besides that itty bitty criticism, I look forward to having another classy B&M within a short drive from Charlotte.

the reason it bottoms out 25 ft up is because the train crosses under it there, and shortly after, goes over the log flume. It would be impossible to have it go below them without a much, much steeper drop. Doesn't look terribly long necessarily, but it looks like it is going to be very smooth and exciting. Drops over the traffic, a dive just above the water, and that helix and overbanked turn look like tons of fun!!! Hope i get to go within a year or two.

^ train wreck? It's 25 ft above the ground, means it's prolly 10-15ft of clearance

probably because they wanted it in the front and that caused some restrictions vs it being in the back (where it couldnt have been seen) where it could have had that 200ft drop, but like I said...it has to go over the river and thru the woods it couldnt be as massive. But im still impressed...

Remark has zero to with the ride itself.

So my question remains. Why didn't Six Flags build a 225' lift with a 200' drop? Height restrictions possibly? I know there is an airport nearby but I haven't read anywhere exactly what those restrictions are in feet. Same height as the Great Gasp I suppose.

OK, so let me pose this question. Why didn't SF dig a tunnel and go under the train, or the road? I mean hey, tunnels are the "in" thing now with the likes of Hades and Voyage. ;)

Now, I know this is all rhetorical and I can only speculate my answers. But you know the marketing department is going to market it as a 200' coaster. The drop height will probably get nary a mention in the commercials, brochures, etc.

OK, OK, I know, I know.....who really cares?

I said I was just playing devils advocate. I truly am excited about this coaster!!! The lack of a MCBR will definately set this one apart from the others.
I'll be doing my first ACE Spring Fling for sure. I'll probably see at lot you guys there too!
:o :o :o

HEY, this still gives Carowinds a chance to have the first 200ft DROP between Apollo & Sheikra!

Chiming in for a second...as much as I'm looking forward to it, I can help but feeling disappointed in the end. I'm with Swampie about the height. I kept hearing bigger numbers when it came to the talk about about the tallness and drop of the ride.

I was always skeptic of the placement of it. Even with the pictures, I guess I'll have to vanquish that skepticism when it comes to ride it.

Like I said, I'm looking forward to it...but...
