Just got an email. Winterfest is cancelled. :(

Although I understand it, I was really looking forward to it.

Just curious, where did the email come from? Could you post it?

And for those of you wondering how CF will change our parks? Hmm... :(

We all know that "events" like this do not become an overnight success. They take a couple years of word of mouth and adjustment.

So far the score is:

Paramount 1
C.F. 0

Here it is:

Paramount's Carowinds has made a business decision to cancel the WinterFest event for the 2006 season. The park will re-focus its resources during the core operating season.

All guests who purchased tickets online through the Paramount's Carowinds web site will automatically be refunded back to the credit card that was provided when they were purchased. This refund transaction will start July 22, 2006 and could take up to 3-5 business days to appear on your account. Please check your credit card statement to verify that the refund has been credited to your account.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and certainly appreciate your interest in our park and our special events. We look forward to providing you with more fun and entertainment in the future. Should you have further questions, feel free to contact our sales and service center at (800) 888-4386.

Sincerely,

Paramount's Carowinds

Oh well...it was nice to have it back for one season. I do feel they gave up on Winterfest too quickly...like said above, it takes time to establish such an event. :(

I hope they continue to transform the Skytower into a Christmas tree.

It is a real shame they are not bringing this back again. We had a great time at the last one and the show at the theatre was really excellent.

I suppose, despite what seemed a good turnout to me, they did not see the profit gain needed to sustain the event. I agree with others here that they really needed to give it more time to take a foothold as an annual event. I believe it could have grown and evolved over time and become a real institution for locals.

I doubt seriously that CF had much to do with its cancellation. <_<

Cedar Fair had everything to do with its cancellation, I'm sure. They were already selling tickets to it, so clearly Paramount had no intention of axing it. I had a feeling Cedar Fair would cut it, though. It's too bad, because I thought it was pretty well done last year.

I think you had too much eggnog that night. Oh wait, that was Jonathan and his sugar overload.

I too hate they won't be bringing it back. Although I see why with the poor attendance it seemed to have last year.

I went twice and both nights the park was pretty empty.

They could have ramped up commercials, and reduced weekdays til the holiday was here. The advanced tickets were a good idea. Oh well, gone too soon. Maybe Cedar Fair has no concept of Winter Events because of the location of Cedar Point. I also think Kings Island is too far north for a successful Winter Event, but maybe that's just me. lol :P

Everyone in my family really enjoyed Winterfest last year. Enough so, that we were planning to spend a lot more money there this year.

I hope Scarowinds stays intact, at least for this year. I imagine changes will be coming to that in the future.

Cedar Fair is really into the Halloween events, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them pour more money into Scarowinds in the future.

Scarowinds is set of the end of September I believe. So, if anybody goes, get Jarvis to meet you there :) He'll provide all the entertainment for the evening.
