General Carowinds discussion

I haven't seen anything on Carowinds site yet, but have noticed that Cedar Point and Michigan Adventure are starting to sell 2008 passes.

The Maxx and Maxx Plus passes seem to be dead, replaced by a Platinum Pass at $140. This seems to be the Maxx Plus pass (good at all CF amusement AND water parks) with the addition of free parking at ALL parks.

MIA's regular pass is $90, and CP's is $105. Neither offer free parking for buying a 2008 pass before the end of the season. I don't think they did that anywhere besides the former Paramount parks this year, either, so not sure whether to read anything into that or not.

I'm pretty sure you won't see a $95 Maxx pass at Carowinds this year - it sounds like the $140 is going to be standard for the entire chain. Whether the regular pass goes up or we get free parking, etc. we'll have to wait and see. My guess would be no free parking, and the passes will go up to $80 or $90.

At CP they mention a perks program for Platinum passholders, with early entry, food and merchandise discounts, and Platinum-passholder-only events. There's no mention of any of this at MIA, though. If I got a 20% food discount like on the old Gold pass, early entry, etc. - this might be a bit more appealing. Of course a new ride next year would also be appealing - ya listening, CF?

Just be prepared to possibly spend more for a pass with parking next year, although we still might get something cheaper here.

I know that our passes won't go on sale probably until later September. There was the usual question if people going to C3 could upgrade. I was told that they won't be on sale next weekend. With the other parks starting to announce their plans, ours should be pretty soon.

Looks like this could be the first time in about 13 years that I don't buy a pass. Not going to any of the Cedar Fair parks by themselves enough to justify an individual pass, and not going to parks in the chain enough to justify $140.

Think this was the first year in many years that I did not have a pass to Carowinds. I even had one last year but never went and have not been to the park in about two years. I would rather take my money and get a season pass at Dollywood (Pass holder for a number of years there).

If I plan to go to more than say three CF parks then I might pony up the cash for one. Safe to say I will not get one for 2008. I guess they need a way to help pay for tearing up the parking lot.

I hope the Platinum won't be $140! That would be too much in our case, with only one other CF park nearby. This year, our Maxx passes were $90 and that was bad enough for 7 of us! With apparently no GREAT new ride for next year and the prospect of this much higher price, I WON'T bite either. We could divert the funds into a visit at Hard Rock and BGE, plus have some left for Dollywood, if park visits are based solely on ticket prices with codes/discounts. I think we will be much happier with visits to three new-for-my-family parks vs. returns to Carowinds, KD and Dorney. We have been to Carowinds 20 times in the past 3 years and are ready for new scenery... somewhere else... take note Cedar unFair!
