I was reading a Charlotte Magizene when I saw this:ImageWhy are their 2 rides that aren't even at carowinds :?: :?: why not take pictures of our own rides?

I only see one ride that isn't at Carowinds, unless you're talking about the giant arms hurling that kid around, which would be an interesting addition for 2009.

That's the balloons ride in the Nick area or whatever it's called. Although, if you want to get real technical, I think that might be Kings Dominion's Hurler, so maybe there are in fact 2.

Anyway, I think you'll find that most people here agree with you, but I'm sure others are like me in that they've gotten used to it over the years. Plus, I don't think this one is really that bad. 3 out of 4 is somewhat acceptable, and at least there is a swings-style ride now with the Yo-Yo.

Chances are the other Cedar Fair parks have similar ads on local mags. That would explain the rides being the pretty generic.

LOL LOL The flying arms ride will get me back thru the gates for sure!

evaninmatthews wrote:My bad. I think it's sort of false advertising. Why not just put a picture of our swings in the ad?

You can't be serious...please tell me you are NOT serious...false advertising??? Gimme a break! False advertisement is when the park says we have 17 roller coasters and the park is sprawling across 600 acres...topped off with a hyper under the bridge! Only coaster dweebs care about what picture the park uses or doesnt use.

We have talked about this bunches of times over the years.
False advertising is the deliberate use of false statements or deception in advertising, in order to gain a commercial advantage.
When I see GhostRider in the Carowinds TV commercial, I believe it fits the definition of false advertising.

Now, if there is some micro sized disclaimer printed somewhere on the commercial stating that certain images may not be Carowinds, I suppose that covers their ***.

Hey, I wonder if they show Thunder Road on the Knott's Berry Farm commercial in CA? Image

How many regular people knows it's ghostrider instead of hurler? It's not like the commercial is saying "come ride ghostrider only at carowinds!". So what they show a drop of another coaster that isnt at carowinds...if someone goes to the park and ask for that "wooden coaster that was going down the hill" they would simply think it is hurler or thunder road. Apparently the legal world doesnt think its "false advertisement because I see the advertisement is still going strong with pictures from SIMILAR attractions.

Jarvis "thought viper @SFMM was ninja thanks to SFOG commercials, but I didnt loose any sleep once I realized it! Hey both are...err...were red and white looping coaster with similar track...should I sue for false advertisement?" Morant

^You would be surprised Jarvis. People today are much more perceptive to details, especially with the popularity of coasters being at an all time high. If the TV ad were just showing a drop of a coaster, that would be one thing but they are showing a particular element (full speed, swooping turnaround) that does not exist on any wooden coaster at Carowinds. Most viewers may not know where that coaster is but they probably know it is not a Carowinds coaster. And most viewers probably don't care, which is why they continue to falsely advertise.

I'm guessing they do not show this same commercial in Columbia.

PS: I do think it's outright false advertising to show an ad with the Whirling Dervish swings. With the lawsuit happy society we live in, it wouldn't surprise me if someone eventually sues claiming deceptive advertising. It wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I thought it said attractions vary by park at the bottom of the TV ad?

I just wanted to here everyone's opinon on the ad. I really don't care because the park is 10 min. away from me. The reason i said it's sort of like false advertising is because of the swings. But, it dosen't matter.

I was listening to Pandora today when a really nice Carowinds ad popped up.

Not exactly a Carowinds ride, though...

Kudos to whoever's in control of the advertising this year. They're doing really well advertising the park.
