General Carowinds discussion

Before last season parking prices for Carowinds were listed as $8. Is it me, but is that a little too much. How can Carowinds expect to pull in the crowds with a big fee. They don't even use the money to maintain the parking lot. Does Carowinds really expect to pay for the Borg *** by rising parking fees. <_<

Well, that is why I but my season passes with the free parking.
I agree 8.00 might be high but the average family of 4 goes it is only 2.00 per person for all day. How much is it to park in downtown Charlotte? A bit more.
As far as paying for Borg Assimiltar that's pretty much already payed for. The cost of getting it here along with the new Theme is quite a bit below the praice of a new coaster.
They have to make money somewhere.
Do you buy souviners at the park?
Do you buy food and drinks while inside?
Do you buy on ride photos?
Are you a regular season pass holder?
If you answer No to the first 3 and Yes to the last one I think you are getting out pretty good.
I for one buy souviners and food while I'm there so they get their money from me that way.

All in all I think 8.00 for a day of secure parking is worth it.

I agree $8 is very high. Of course other parks are even higher. However, I would rather them charge $2 more on their ticket then $8 for parking. For families of two or three you can save a little, and for four or more you can make more. For van loads or buses you would make a lot more without hurting any one person's budget much.

Actually I think it's been $8 for 2 seasons now (going on 3 now). Let's hope they don't raise it again.

I'm so glad I got my season pass in the fall, with free parking on it. ;) :)

$8 is a bit much, but the only other option is to park at the mall, and walk.

I agree, eight dollars is very steep... parking at the nearby mall is free and I intend on doing so... which leads me to my question...

Do any members wish to purchase their passes for less???? Well I sure do... so if three others would like to buy a family season pass with me that'd be great for all of us... a single is $80 and a four pack is $250 making a savings of around $20 dollars a person. My friends and I did it last season and it worked well, but all but one of them are not interested in another pass this year. The family passes are no different than the individuals, they just cost less... Just e-mail me and mabye we could all meet on opening day and purchase them!

I'm really excited about the Borg and I can't wait to ride it!

$8 is somewhat high. Dollywood charges $6, and they have tram service. Busch Gardens charges $8, and they have trams as well.

But then again, I'm much more confused about the Coca-Cola prices than the steep parking charges.

I dont think thats an option moreless a cheap person who's car needs to be towed. And if you or someone you know does that then thats sad.......real sad...

I say these prices are rediculeus compared to other parks. This is stupid. They need to lower them at least 2 to 3 bucks.

I've parked there one or two times, and never had a problem. They won't tow you, unless you do it on a regular basis. They won't know if you're a customer at the mall or not.

I completely agree... the mall's parking lot is oversized and usually empty... it may sound cheap to some, but to me its practical... :o

Thanks for helping keep the cost on parking up for us responsible people. If you guys can't afford $8 then I agree it's sad. If you really appreciate and like the park then you should respect their fees and buy into the park in all aspects to help them with income.

It is my understanding that the cost of parking charged by a park is related to the cost for both maintenance for the lot and taxes on the land the lot occupies. Generally, a park does not attempt to make a "profit" on parking but rather it is a means to cover costs.

Carowinds lot is rather narrow in its layout and therefore it would be somewhat impractical for Carowinds to offer a Tram service.

I would be very surprised if a sizable percentage, if not the entire amount, of the $8.00 parking fee were not being applied to upkeep.

Not trying to sound contradictory, but they haven't done anything to the parking lot in years, except clearing the land for the overflow parking lot.

But I can see the funds going to the people directing traffic, and the "rent-a-cops" as a friend of mine calls them :) j/k nothing against security workers. :)

When you do the math, $8 seems kinda steep on the parks behalf.

On an average day, they might have 3,000 cars park in the lot. This would mean the park would gross 24,000 in parking fees a day. Multiply this for about 150 days of operation, and you get 3,600,000. Staff wages for people working in the parking lot and the gate where they "Fine" you $8 could be 2,000 a day (300,000 a year). Maybe the park pays 1,000,000 a year in taxes (I'm not at that stage in life yet, so correct me if I'm wrong). This leaves 2,300,000 for upkeep, is it just me, or is the park making a huge profit off of all of our money. Is all this money needed for things inside the park or is it (hopefully) channeled into savings for new rides.
