General Carowinds discussion

I found out from someone high in the ranks in the park why PC got Stealth from PGA. They, in Calif., had so many problems with the coaster that it was costing them much more money than they wanted to spend on it. THe coaster is very low on ride capacity, being that it only runs 24 people per train. That is low. Carowinds began talking to them this past summer and agreed to pay and extra 2.3 million to upgrade the computer system on it. PC agreed to do it, and PGA began to preparations to get rid of it. Well, we got it, some people are glad and more are not. Hopefully, it wont go down every 20 minutes like it did there. I was able to see a POV video of it in training and from the looks of it, it is going to be cool.

Yeah PGA definitely had a lot of problems with it, so I think everyone here is crossing their fingers that it gets working at Carowinds.

Hey winthropjr... you said (supposedly) that you were in the park recently (for training?), did you see any theming/what did the station look like?

Well, I am happy we got it. With it being "updated" surely some of the bugs can get worked out plus it just adds another style to our collection.
Thanks for the info.

Here is my prediction:

Carowinds will not be able to get the Borg working and will go though a major rehab next winter (Keeping us from getting anything big). After that, the Borg will be working "OK" for a few weeks untill it falls back into the "habit" of breaking down all the time. I think carowinds will just live with this for about five of six seasons (that long because they are spending so much money on themeing) and then go the way of White Lightnin'. I then think Gold Reef City will be happy to do some more business with carowinds. After all, they don't have a flying coaster "YET" :o (OH NO!)

Stealth will be one of Carowinds' worst mistakes when they are all done with it and it is in South Africa.

^Wow, that's like the operating habits of Deja Vu. I don't think it will be THAT bad.

Perhaps they could just use the same operating system B&M has on the Superman Flyers. SFOG has very little trouble with theirs, and they have a double station with switch sections!

I don't think that the ride has to have a very high capacity at Carowinds.

We don't really have line problems except during Scarowinds and during the Labor and Memorial day weekends. (Though FFS always has a line)

I don't think they would of agreed to spend the money to move it and re-build it if they knew they couldn't get the kinks worked out. I'm sure most of Stealth's problems can be fixed, of course, with a little bit of money. ;)

Well, anything can be fixed with enough money...

I think for Stealth, were talkin somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10 million when everything is said and done to get it running almost as good as some of the worst B&Ms.

Can only wonder what some of you will say after your first ride on it.

Exactly what were the problems with Stealth?

If Carowinds is spending so much money on "computer" updates what were the problems with the original system and where did it fouled up?

"If" they can keep 2 trains running smoothly like Top Gun, and the other coasters, the capacity is not that much lower. 24 per train instead of 32 so I expect to see long lines for this mainly because it is new for us.

What will I say after riding it the first time? Wow, that's a sweet ride!!

 Picky Picky. You'd think we'd be more excited to get such a cool coaster. I certainly am. Let the parks worry about the technical stuff. It seems the trains are going through some modifications and we are going to have a themed coaster. This is a big addition to Carowinds and I'm sure everyone is going to love the unique ride.

Ok........lets see......
Vortex=24 passengers per train; great ride pull out
Ricohet= 4 passengers per train; fairly good ride pull out
Hurler=28 passnegers per train; very great ride pull out.

Whats my point: statistics means nothing to me their just numbers. I have never waited in line longer than 30 mins for a carowinds coaster. It all has to do w/ the ride crew and how deticated they are. Besides the hourly capacity is 1000 people per hour and that averages out to be aprox. 33 trains per hour, and im sure the crew on this coaster is probably going to be as good as the crew on top gun, being they seem to win all the awards for best crew.

Hey winthrop dude i motion for the top gun crew to be transfered to BORG!!

anyone second it??

You seem to think you know how to fix so many problems! I get that impression. From some of the things you write, you allude to me, that you are questioning me and what I have told you so far. I will be in that park every weekend until March 20th. From now on, I will say NO More on the progress of the ride or what is happening with it. I am appaulled at some of the people on this site--NOT EVERYONE, there are some really cool people. So I guess consider this you LAST update from me. If the park updates anymore, then they can tell you more.

Agreed.

I don't care that much that the coaster is 3 years old, I'm just glad that we got a flyer before PKD and PKI did. :D

Winthropjr...

Do you have PMS? I was replying to Cephas, not you, and when was I rude to you? Because I said the word supposedly and then in paranthesis asked if you were there because of training? Right, that is pretty appauling. :)
