Hey,

So, now that the park is owned by Cedar Fair, does the South Gate only open on weekends?

One of the iconic parts of our trips to Carowinds was walking under Top Gun/Afterburn. The ride is visually stunning but that's lost on entering elsewhere.

It's used on busy days... so yes, its usually only on weekends.

I have only seen it open on Saturdays. I havent been through that gate for a few years... Should check it out sometime and see whats new over there.

There is nothing "new" over there, other than some landscaping in the parking lot.

Man, I miss that gate being open all the time. The only time I used to go in the main gate was when meeting friends unfamiliar with the park. The rest of the time it was South gate all the way. Less crowded, closer parking, great views of Top Gun from parking your car until getting on the coaster, etc. Even after hundreds of rides on TG I'd often stop and watch the train go into the batwing tunnel as I'd exit the park.
