;) Hi you Carowind Junkies,

Hopefully you can help an old man make a decision.....

We will be coming pretty close to Charlotte in the 2nd week of June, my 2 sons say that they would like to go to carowinds. Only have one day (weekday) and they are only open til 6pm (i think).

Question - for only one day will it be worth the bother to stop by Carowinds or will the crowds be so bad in June they will not get to ride but 3 or 4 rides because of the long lines. I lived in Charlotte 15 years ago or so but have not been back since.

Thanks for your help.........

As long as you're going on a weekday, it's pretty safe to bet that you won't have a problem riding everything you want multiple times. I've never seen long lines on a weekday in all the years I've been going.

well foer me, weekdays are good line wise, but not all the good rides are open. Like Thunder Road (Backwards). And River Rapids. I hope they are this year.

LUCKY!! i had to wait about 45 mins on a weekday once just to ride Cyclone once, and that was just cyclone!! so you can imagine top gun!

but don't wory, TRY to go if you can on monday tuesday o wednesday, they'e the least crowded days.

were they running only 1 train because i go almost daily during the weekdays in the summer and ive never been in a line longer then 10-20 minutes NEVER!!

yea you should definately go but i wouldnt get my hopes too high on the new roller coaster because lines will be 45 minutes on it and it breaks down alot etc. but the other rides you are usually on it within 1-2 runs.

You should have no problem - Carowinds is very much a Saturday park as far as crowds go. In the summer Saturdays are just as insane, if not moreso at times, as they are at any other amusement park. This seems to be the only day that any significant amount of people drive to the park who don't live within 30 minutes of it.

However, unless there's a concert or something going on, every other day of the week is pretty manageable. Barring any maintenance problems, the majority of the steel coasters will have both trains running even if it's slow. Sometimes last year they'd go to one-train operation on the woodies if it was slow - but in years before that they almost always had 2 trains on those as well. In addition, the majority of the crowd on a weekeday will be locals who are hitting the waterpark, and not the coasters.

BORG will probably have a line at the start of the day but as long as it's running reliably by then it'll probably thin out to 30-45 minutes or less later in the day. The other rides will probably never have more than a 30 minute line, and often will be near walkons. The only exception to that might be if it's hot, Flying Super Saturator can get packed since it's right next to the waterpark and is slow-loading.

The best thing is to hit the park early - they should let people in to park and to get tickets before 10, so I'd get there about 9:30. I'd hit BORG either first thing or mid-afternoon after the initial rush dies down, other than that you should be able to ride everything as you come to it. Given a full 8 hours in the park, you should easily get to hit all the coasters and thrill rides at least once, and should get several re-rides on your favorites.

it basically goes for every park. Weekdays are much better, if you get there at opening and leave at closing you'll be fine, just make some time for Borg, that's for sure. :D
