General Carowinds discussion

It' been discussed many times before on these boards that at one time Thunder Road had 4 trains from Chicago's defunct Riverview Park. (Two from Jetstream, Two from Fireball)

But, I don't recall anyone ever pointing out what happened to the four after the park replaced them with current PTC trains around 1980.

Does anybody know the wherabouts of them? Still in storage somewhere, or scrapped?

I heard that PKD has them buried in one of their ware houses, but I'm not sure why they would have them, since I doubt they'll ever be used at a Paramount Park again.

This is kinda off subject, but I loved your Dollywood pics. I'll be going back there on vacation on June 6. It'll only be my second time going (my first time was last summer.) We go to Pegion Forge every summer (for the past 5 or so years.) Sorry about beging off subject though, just had to say this!

Thunder Road actually started off with just 2 trains from the Jetstream. They never had Fireball's trains. Curious where you heard that?

Listen, I do not want to come across as a "know it all", because I certainly do NOT know everything about Carowinds or these old trains.

What I can tell you is that I have plenty of old photos, newspaper clippings, etc that clearly show the coaster opened with only 2 trains. When they purchased 4 PTC's in 1980 (I think, not sure of exact year), I went looking for the whereabouts of the old Jetstream trains.

Lot's of rumors started floating around as to the whereabouts of those trains. One rumor had it that they were buried in the old scrapyard under the Hurler. I have finally found conclusive evidence that they were scrapped but they are not under the Hurler. What a shame no one had the foresight to save them.

Yes I agree. I read somewhere that there were only 2 trains in the early days, and that they were scrapped when we got the 4 trains.

This Website says that Carowinds also purchased the Fireball trains as well. Maybe they used them for parts or something to keep the other two together. (Or maybe they didn't buy them at all?)

BTW, The Dollywood pics are Paul Drabek's of Negative G. I agree, they are very nice. :)

It would be nice to have used them to make the themeing better. Such as a derailed train. I dont see a coaster in the park that it would go with though.

Very interesting. I've communicated with Adam before and even contributed to his site. I've sent him an email asking where he got that info. It could be very possible that the park bought them for parts or with intentions to use them and decided not to. I'm very curious what source he got that info from.
