I have found a article about Thunder Road's trains colliding in 1999.<a href='http://www.coasterforce.com/information/accidents.shtml' target='_blank'>Article</a>

Go down to April 1999. There is some thing you can read.

Yes, I remember that accident very well. It happened on the forward side. Thankfully, it wasn't too serious. A few minor neck sprains on several passengers. It was closed for maybe 2 weeks or a little longer. I had some friends visiting from the northwest that week and I clearly remember not being able to ride TR because it was shut down due to that accident.

That collision did lead to a newly improved computerized, sensorized brake system. Carowinds has been fortunate to have not had any major accidents (deaths) on any of it's rides. I hope that trend continues indefinately.

Been there, done that. (See post: Jan 7 2004, 06:58 AM Last Post by: CarowindsThrills)
Let's not go here again.
Carowinds has one of the best records in the industry.
They entertain around 2 million guests per year and have had very few incidents. You have a better chance of getting injured on your toaster than at the (or any) park.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh yes I remember this very well. As a matter of fact I was working at the Goldrusher at the time of the Incident. I found out later that night of what happened. I do recall Vortex breaking down while everything was going on they showed some shots @ Vortex. I think that they were evacuating that ride Not 100% sure. Being that I have been a Ride Operator @ PCW
I am Proud to say that PCW is one of the Safest around. I tend to get sick of hearing people ask me “Am I going to die on this ride?????” I always respond with the same answer every time. “Nooooo as a matter of fact CW has some of the safest rides anywhere. There are no reports around of anyone dieing.”

The new brake system now stops you much earlier than the old one did.

The new one stops you just outside of the tunnel, before you rolled up a good bit closer to the station.

Now they have two sets of brakes there to catch the train should the first fail, I guess.
