Thought I would share a few photos with those interested. They were taken today (3/11/05).

The park looked very nice. They still have a ways to go before next weekends opening so I'm sure they will be burning the midnight oil to get everything in order.

A couple things I found out today were, Top Gun onride photos will be back soon, and SNAPPING on the Flyers will be allowed...YIPPEEEEE!!!

Today, I had to go pick up some stuff from Carolina Pottery at the mall across from Carowinds for my mom. And when I got out of the car, I could see them testing out the Phantom and the Helicopters. So it looks like Carowinds is working hard to get everything finish for opening day.

Wow, everything looks a lot different from the construction tour. The theming is shaping up nicer than I had expected. I'm impressed! I guess we should have the first flyer reports Sunday after the video shoot, although I assume we'll need to keep it under control for that. :P

The Nick commercial shoot was yesterday (3/10) and the Flyers were running full steam. It appears that the particular setting that the PFlyers are in allows the wind to really whip through the area causing some great sailing.

The B roll will be shot Sunday between 1-4pm. I hope to be there as well to get more photos of the rides in action.

They are considering putting a historical marker in front of the Flyers similar to what they have done with the carousel. It definately deserves one, imo.

Yeah, it does. I wonder what happened to the idea of placing one for the Sternwheeler. That never happened.... Just remember when history is forgotten, it repeats itself.

It is when you jerk the fin from one side to the other very fast.

^^ Sorry, I meant to explain it earlier but forgot.

^ And, no, that is *not* what snapping is. Please do not do that as it can damage the sails. Snapping the cables on flying scooters is when you get your tub to stall out so that the cable goes slack for a moment. When it goes tight again it makes a snapping sound and sends the tub flying. It's hard to explain, and I'm sure someone else can phrase it better. You really have to see it or do it to understand. It requires more of a slow calculated moving of the sail, not whipping it back and forth.

^^edited: Sorry Jonathan. I guess we were typing our explanation at the same time. I would not have written this had I seen yours first.

OK, I'll take a shot at defining "snapping" for you.

The term pretty much speaks for itself. Think of the cables that are attached to the individual cars. The object is to move the rudder on the car in a manner that causes the cable to quickly loosen, and then tighten, causing the snap in the cable. A good snap will shake not only your car, but the entire ride. It can be quite scary if you are not prepared.

Also, it's not as easy as it sounds. There is an art to good snapping. I, personally am no expert in snapping (mainly because I haven't had one of these rides at my frequent disposal to practice on), but I have managed to snap on Knoebel's Flyers.

It's hard to explain "how" you get the car to snap and sometimes it can be something you experience by pure accident. Usually, moving the rudder quickly to the right, causing the car to fly outward, and then quickly moving the rudder to the left may cause the snap. Now, that was just a hypothetical explanation, and I could have the motions backwards. Once we all get acquainted with our new "toy", hopefully someone can explain it better.

Good luck!

Don't listen to me, I was just guessing with what I do know(about this, that ain't much). I have only rode PKD's Eagles but I "love" the ride.
