My husband and I are thinking of taking a trip to Kings Island this summer - Just wondering if you guys think it's worth the 8+ hour drive. We were thinking of going to Kings Dominion but thought PKI would be more fun.

Well, their best ride is now at Carowinds. :D I really enjoyed Kings Island, but personally I prefer Kings Dominion. Either is worth the trip, though.

Kings Dominion is better... You can't miss Volcano and Hypersonic.

The Beast and Tomb Raider are the best rides there, with the exception of Italian Job and of course I haven't ridden that yet.

It's a nice park, but if you want rides I'd suggest PKD.

I love the Beast though and could ride it all day long.

Also just for more info on that area, Six Flags Kenucky Kingdom is only an hour or so south of Cincinnati and Holiday World is close by to KK as well.

I'm heading up there in May for Media Day for IJ.

I'd say hit Kings Dominion and if you have time you should go to Busch Gardens one day also. Both are great parks in their own rights. Busch is Beautiful with some great rides and shows and Kings Dominion is full of coasters and the water park.

If you've never been, I'd go just for the experience. Its not a bad park. To me, its got a nice atmosphere (which some of it will probably be lost with the addition of IJST.) One thing I like about it (and PKD) is the whole fountain area at the front, especially at night when its lit up.

I'm not totally enamored of the coasters. I like Top Gun because its an Arrow suspended. Face/Off is fun. They can burn SOB to the ground. Racer is okay. It feels weird when the turnaround splits apart unlike TR and RY's. Adventure Express is fun until the ending. Vortex is fun and its neat to see the remaining footers of the Bat around it (and knowing that the station house was used for the Bat.) Beast is okay. I thought their Reptar is much smoother than ours.

But, you know the reason I'd go back...FOF is run midcourse brakeless. Unlike FOF at PKD, PKI's doesn't have the midcourse brake on. It makes the ride kickarse.
